Hi & Acceleration Views

Hello to everyone, I just signed up today after stumbling across the forum a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have been reading your stories with a mixture of empathy and amusement..!!

Without wishing to sound like a feature on a Simon Bates radio programme...this is my story: I bought an Alfa 147 Lusso Selespeed (45000 miles on the clock and full service histoy) just before Christmas, you can probably guess what's coming, less than 20 days later the cam-belt snapped taking all that it could down with it .

3 weeks later I got the car back with pretty much a new engine in it and was facing a bill of £1250, double Luckily I managed to convince the dealer who I had bought the car from to knock the bill down to £500 as I had only had the car a couple of weeks...even though I firmly believe I shouldn't have had to have paid anything at all (unsuitable goods n' all that!) but c'est la vie.

Anyway, I've got it back now and am loving driving it - I must say the handling is superb but I am a bit disappointed with the acceleration. I recently drove an Audi A3 1.8diesel which was much quicker. Is it just my new engine bedding in or is this just generally the case that acceleration ain't that great??? Any views??

Re: Hi & Acceleration Views

Steve - Sense of acceleration is a personal thing. I'd think it was slow because I drive a V6, but someone driving a 1.6 might think it fast.. Best thing you can do is drive a few thousand miles, get the oil and filter changed and then get it on a rolling road and see what power its putting out. It should be 150bhp, but I admit the engine does need to be revved hard to get that power out, they aren't the most torquey of engines.. The TDi might feel quicker because of that shove of torque low down.

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: Hi & Acceleration Views

What Pud said. Sense of, rather than actual?: The 2.0litre twiniee' churns out plenty at the crank imo. After a period,(we know what that is, don't we? ) more than belts and plastic, can endure!!:

Re: Hi & Acceleration Views

Ok, thanks guys, I'll take your advice and get the oil etc changed in a few thousand miles....and of course my other car is a Zonda so my feeling of acceleration may be reduced in the Alfa!!! If only....!!
