Greetings

I have no social media presence and have never been a member of any forum but in my search and early months of Alfa ownership I've been both informed and entertained by this forum so it's time to stop lurking and step out of the shadows. I'm not especially mechanically minded so I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute much to the technical threads but you never know.

I owned a 147 2.0TS Lusso 3 door for eight largely trouble free years but family circumstances meant I needed more doors so I traded it in for a Skoda Octavia VRS. Great car but even though it was quick it didn't really do it for me. Circumstances have changed and now 3 doors are all I need so I'm now the owner of a 58 plate GT JTDm Cloverleaf 170 in Atlantico Blue with 48k on the clock. I'm assuming it also has the Q2 LSD - it's got the sport button and the 937A6 engine code. A private sale so no warranty.

I've had it checked over at Autolusso's Saturday Surgery which revealed no obvious horrors so being the cautious sort I've had the swirl flaps deleted, the EGR valve blanked off, a waxoyl treatment and silicone hoses fitted. Also new cambelt and water pump which wasn't quite due but seemed a good idea whilst the swirl flaps were being seen to. If all goes well this winter I'll think about a modest remap, wheel refurbishment and DAB radio in the spring. A tan interior would be nice too.

Minor bits and bobs that I've done myself are fixing the passenger seat tilting mechanism (thankfully it was only the cable that had broken free of the lever so not too difficult) a new Simoni Racing gear knob (thanks for the tip of using a hairdryer to get the flaking AR knob off), iPod connecting cable and new front and rear badges.

A more urgent job is to fix the door handle (hinge only I hope) which broke at the weekend. I've brought forward the next service by a few weeks so I can get that fixed and also the creaking door check strap this week. I'd also like to silence the alarm on/off bleeps which sound really loud in the late night and early morning quiet. I know there's a way of doing this but I'm not brave enough to try it!

If the GT behaves as well as the 147 I'll be a happy man. Right now I'm a vaguely uneasy man but I'm hoping that will pass.

Anyhow, that's probably enough for a first post save to say thanks for the education and entertainment so far.
