I've just joined the forum, after a few weeks of reading your posts of experiences, common faults, cures etc.
As I own a 156 Selespeed, which is troublesome
, but very rewarding to drive
, I thought I can share my experiences with you guys in the know, as well as get some useful information
Just a bit about me; I'm a car nut, mechanical engineer by trade, so not scared to take a plunge with problematic things.
Alfa's have had a bad rep in the past. I've always loved the 156, but so many people have warned me off them.
So, I thought I’d buy one and make my own mind up...
So far I purchased an 18TS which had cam belt failure. Repaired it & it drove great!
Sold that, then bought a Selespeed a few months back, with gear shift problems.
Found oil levels to be low, & a dodgy wire in a connector block. Worked fine for 2 months, but now faults are coming back. Too wet & cold so far for me to have another nose.
I'll let you know what I find.....
