joining the dark side :-)

well hello all
well im a bike man really, but a broken collarbone means the bikes n van are a bit of a handful, n with 6 months till they can rebuild it again, i needed a car
went to look at a 156 that looked all nice n shiny in the pics
it isnt really, and is far from perfect
but the 2.5 diesel seemed strong n running gear all tight n warning lights as they should be
so, took the plunge, along with the huge pile of paperwork :-)
just going through it and what do i find?
dyno charts from red dot racing, reciepts for valeo flywheel racing clutch and on and on :-)
so my journey to the dark side starts with an even bigger grin :-)
first thoughts?
never done a car trackday before
hi all, am sure therell be lots of questions in time

Welcome to AO & congrats on your 156

Check out the Tech Lounge Alfa 147, 156 & GT - Alfa Romeo Forum if you need any advice, info or help.

PS it's a 2.4 JTD, the 2.5 is a petrol V6

cheers all, its getting there
rear brakes rebuilt n filter change done (non standard fuel filter?? is this common? water trap connector bigger than the one on recomended filter)

also, considering the huge jump from 130 standard to 192 bhp at back wheel
im trying to work out whats been done to it to achieve this
is 192bhp really achievable with the 10v head by just tweaking the ecu/fuelling?
could a 20v head have been swapped in (how do i tell difference between a 10 and 20valve head)
or poss a bigger turbo(there is a reciept for a turbo but i dont know part number of standard turbo?)
welding done although there wasnt much
new tyres on front
n off to have a complete respray soon
that will just leave the battery drain issue that ive been reading through numerous posts about :-)
the light fault indicator on revcounter is on all the time (except for odd flickers when you do windows ) until you turn the lights on
no bulbs gone anywhere and from posts it seems to be looking towards the cct board on back of the rev counter?
but my ameter isnt showing any drain when everything is turned off
it will start if only left overnight, but if it is left longer than that the battery looses too much to crank engine over
regardless of that i go to chase some petrol engines friday on my first ever car trakday
so i will really get to know what shell'do :-)

bugger, ya might have to mate
lesson learnt
cadwell was not kind :-) taking off over the mountain in a front wheel drive not recomended for extending clutch life
on the up side, the BMW Alpina couldnt keep up lol
the downside may well mean i end up selling or breaking it tho
hardly great, but it did what i needed and got me through the bit when i couldnt drive the van
rather than me posting randon unneccesssary stuff to get up to 10 posts so i can do a classified, if theres any friendly admin who want to make an exception makes sense for it to go to someone on here
a pound for every ft/lb of torque will do me for the lot
n besides the engine theres new rear discs n pads just fitted last on welding to make underside not just solid but long term solid, 2 new tyres and the back 2 are fine too
it is a rough n ready 156 pre facelift sportwagon
but red dot racing did make it breath fire
anyone interested in bits or the lot, drop me a line
clutch does still operate (cg motorsport stage 2) but with clutch out theres a nasty rattle, am guessing thrust bearing or possibly pressure plate, but regardless engine will need to come out, n thats beyond my spannering ability
think im hooked tho, my mate was trying to sell me on a T5, and it was nice, but not an alfa :-)
