Hi from South London

Hi everyone! Joined as planning on getting a 156, probably petrol and a four cylinder car as less maintenance. Not got a big budget, although I am happy servicing my motorcycle. I can't weld or paint though. I am hopeful of picking something up for less than 1,500. Is this realistic? Also, who do we recommend for insurance? Tips on buying, cambelts aside?

Yes, I'd say that was realistic. Look for a car that's been cherished by an Alfa nut - wodges of bills, no dents, alloys not kerbed, matching tyres, faded badges replaced etc and try and buy privately. Judge the car by the seller is a good mantra. Watch for rust in the floorpan - have a good look and poke around underneath. 2.0 TS and 1.8 TS are great engines. 1.6 a little gutless. I personally prefer the 2002 car with the upgraded interior which was available for a year or so before the front end facelift of 2003 which ruined the look of the car IMHO.

Current cars : 2004 GT 3.2 standard + Q2, 2004 2.0 JTS Spider. Previous Italian cars: GTV 3.0 P2 (916), 146ti, Spider 2.0 TS (916) x2, 147 2.0 TS, GT Cloverleaf Jtdm, GT Jtdm (crushed by tractor), Fiat Coupe 16v Turbo, Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo.

Hi and welcome.
If you need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to give us a try. If you wanted to private message me when you have a vehicle in mind I would be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.
