Hi and thank you to everyone that has welcomed me to the Alfa forum. The whine in the gearbox of my 156 is not so much loud as annoying. I can detect it in every gear between 2500 and @ 3500 revs. It is especially annoying as this sits right in the middle of motorway 'cruising speed' - disappearing again at @ 80mph. The car has only covered 30,000 miles and is currently under warranty - though I doubt that the warranty would cover a whine?? This is my second Alfa - the first - a 156 2 litre JTS Veloce Speedwagon was a total disaster - I only owned it for 5 months before taking it back to the dealership - it broke down without warning 5 times - complete electrical failure - the last time was in a car wash!!
Oh well, undeterred I have bought another - I think I need might need therapy! BUT, the reason I have bought another 156 is obvious; they are beautiful, have 5 seats and go well. I have my fingers crossed this time.

howver my gearbox does it and its a good box, so go figure
