Yep both are contracted for a further year, however Alonso had a 3 year contract with McClaren which has been terminated.

I also heard comment that McClaren would not want Alonso joining a manufacturer backed team for next season.

I wonder if Jensen still knows how to drive a competetive car? I'd really like to see him in equal equipment as Hamilton (unless Lewis insists on preferential treatment at McLaren next year?) I'd hate it if Jensen was in the same comfort zone as Coulthard's been in for 5 years. Pension David off, and let's see Alonso on a Red Bull (OLE!)

I'm pretty certain that Button is staying at Honda, as it was mentioned a few weeks (months?) back, and hopefully will have a much better car for next season

I think even Alonso has the sense to have an escape route worked out before severing ties with McLaren. I bet it was part of the 'even stevens' no financial adjustment deal that Mclaren have probably had to help him find a seat on the quiet. There must have been teams sniffing around for ages..but on the other hand..some teams may have been put off by his behaviour. I think he has damaged his own cause though.

I don't think a top F1 driver would leave himself up the creek without a paddle..though it did happen to Damon Hill of course at Williams.

Wehen the rumours about Alonso's leaving started, it was strange to see all the top teams suddenly jump to make statements about how they'd resigned their current drivers, or otherwise fillled 2008's vacancies.

One would almost get the impression that (other than Flavio, who also ensured his 2 slots for 2008 sans Fernando) nobody particularly likes or wants Alonso........

True enough, but nothing is as movable as an F1 drivers contract, so its perfectly possible they would use these declarations to negotiate Alonso's price down. They might want him, he's a damn fast driver, but they might not want to to pay for him

Or they might not want his ego, regardless of how fast he is. It'll be a brave boss that does take him on. I can see Frank Williams doing it, but as always with Frank, you work for the team, or you don't work at all, and Alonso would have to deal with that very quickly indeed.
