Re: Ferrari Vs Mclaren

It seems that emails between Alonso and De La Rosa dated in March, discuss how a particular area of the Ferrari set-up worked, suggesting McLaren had the Ferrari plans as long ago as March AND that they were not limited to just Coughlan but were quite widely dispersed throughout McLaren AND that they were making full use of it, rather than "July, "Coughlan only" and "didn't help us at all" as is being trotted out from Woking.

If it's true, it makes the constant "we're the most honest team" and "WE don't cheat" bleatings from Ron Dennis either staggeringly naive or deliberately obfuscating.

All the teams and all the drivers have been requested to hand over any information they have about the case in return for "amnesty" from other sanctions. Alonso/De La Rosa (or whoever) would have been compelled to 'fess up. If they didn't and it was later found that they knew something and kept quiet, then their life would have become quickly unpleasant.

McLaren is looking at disqualification from 2007 championship, I think.

Re: Ferrari Vs Mclaren

Thing is that when McLaren went unpunished last time, the FIA said that if it was found that they had benefitted from the information they'd be excluded for 2007 and 2008.

I've got mixed feelings - although they should be punished if they're found guilty, I think it would spoil the sport for two seasons, if not longer. Mind you, next year's Prodrive entry might have a superstar line-up.

Very interested to see what happens - when Ron was proclaiming their innocence he was either lying (again) or he doesn't know what's going on in his own team. Looks bad either way.

Re: Ferrari Vs Mclaren

It is however disenheartening (sp?) to see so many professional sports being mired in corruptions and scandals.

Coming to think of it, it's actually just like real life :blank:

Yep, that makes perfect sense . The (fake)email in question was sent at the very beginning of the season.

Re: Ferrari Vs Mclaren

If, and I say if what has been reported in the press re the emails etc. is correct then surely it is McLaren and Ron Dennis who have dropped themselves in it. I didn't hear Alonso protesting their innocence earlier in the season but I did hear Ron denying that they ever used the Ferrari data and information.

Re: Ferrari Vs Mclaren

The flexi-floor-Ferrari? Apparently it was not illegal, otherwise the scrutineers would have ejected it from the Australian GP. I'm only speculating but I'd guess they are the experts on what's legal and what isn't.

Anyway, let's say the f-f-F used a liberal interpretation of the rules. The regulations were clarified after a letter from McLaren (who claim to not have had the Ferrari blueprints in March.. but instead were "told" about the floor by Nigel Stepney as a concerned "whistle-blower".

The f-f-F was modified so it fitted within the clarified rules. It's never been "illegal".

Contrast that with the Toyota rally car "turbo air restrictor" scandal (1996?) and you can see the difference.
