Yes, the letter of the law was upheld. Not sure about the spirit thereof

We've been through the spirit of the sport eg. flexible wings, taking people out, spying etc. We've been through all that

True

I must say though that I was a little surprised that Kimi didn't get the infamous black and orange flag given the loose exhaust could have been dangerous if it flew off onto an oncoming car.

FIA and co are the law but they do make mistakes. What surprised me is that Ferrari didn't try to remove it during his pit stop. Considering how FIA is strict and all business nowadays, Ferrari did push their luck a bit.

Not sure I would want to be the guy removing that though.

It was hot enough to burn through carbon fibre!

Re: F1 2008

Both fair points, but one wonder if they spoke to the stewards to confirm if it was ok surely.

Saw a camera shot of the Ronster speaking to FIA (by pressing a button on his super duper console) whilst they were investigating Hamilton's manouvre on Vettel.

Re: F1 2008

Norbert Haug thinks Hamilton could have finished third but for the penalty?????? he couldn't even get past Piquet and he pitted first.

Yes, a clear mistake by the race director as it did fly off during the race.

Did you see the welding on the Ferrari Scuderia on top gear last night ?

Re: F1 2008

The welding on the Scuderia didn't look that bad to me.

Have any of you tried welding? I did an evening class in basic arc welding when I built my kit car in the 1980s, and I am a qualified basic lead welder, even though I'd probably need at least a months practice to get back up to even basic speed with that. Its an art as much as anything, you need to get a rhythm and a feel for it. Until you get it right you just ******** up every thing you touch. Some pick it up quicker than others....I'm about middling, but as I don't do any welding day to day my technique is well up the creek these days.

Re: F1 2008

I also can't believe Kimi did not get black flagged for that, could have been lethal had it fallen of and struck the car behind. I wonder if Mclaren would have got away with it?

Boring race i thought, and Lewis was too hot headed, mind you being ten places back instead of third was always going to ruin this race for him. Bring on Silverstone!

Also not forgetting that that the welding was probably Tig (am i right in assuming that the ferrari has an ally chassis?) Which is a lot harder to master than Mig or stick.....but much nicer to look at when its done right

Re: F1 2008

It was much better then the MotoGP Go Stoner
Its not often you can say that, even Suzi P said as much after the Brit Moto GP.

Kimi R has now had the DHL Fastest Lap for the last 5 GPs.
