Re: F1 2008
To see more on track overtaking, the entire ethos of F1 needs to be changed.

Or more mechanical grip and less aerodynamic grip

Re: F1 2008
Autosport is reporting that Bridgestone are taking slicks, yes slicks, to the next F1 test. They must be at least half serious about switching to them at least

Re: F1 2008
But is it their choice? I thought details of the tires to be used by F1 cars were a FIA responsibility.

Re: F1 2008
Yes thats right, but the FIA must have suggested it, because the cost to bridgestone would be considerable for no real gain unless it was at least a possibility?

Re: F1 2008
But to introduce slicks without drastically altering the aero side of the cars will only increase the overtaking problem

Re: F1 2008
They are already working on aero solutions to increase stability(and to stop cars losing so much downforce) when following another car. Also, there is a plan to ban winglets and introduce slicks in 09. When(if) all this eventuates i think that the cars will be slower since the engine development is frozen and the drivers are stuck at 18.500rmp.We just have to wait and see

Slower cars+less aero grip+more mechanical grip=more overtaking (in theory, anyway)
I'd also ban refueling and give 'em tyres good enough to just about last a race distance.
And I'd go back to the old 10-6-4-3-2-1 scoring system.
THEN you might well see some more on track excitement in the sport.

Re: F1 2008
I may be about to sound like a heretic.. but what would "easier overtaking" in F1 actually achieve?
At the moment we have quick cars held up by slower ones and that makes a race unfold in a particular way... where strategy and nouse is as important as building a very quick car. Races may have not much overtaking.. but they can still be gripping.
If overtaking was dead simple, after a few laps the field will sort itself out.. the fast cars at the front (clearing off into the distance) and the slower cars will be at the back, being lapped more often.
What's more exciting about that?

Re: F1 2008
I think it would stop races becomeing processions. Having said that, last year there were a few exciting races, and Lewis didn't have any problems overtaking (just entering the pits )

That is what happens when you delay a decision and then you have nothing to work with because you driver is racing on canvas and finds a strategically placed gravel trap

I think there's a notion that "more overtaking" suddenly means all the cars performance will be equalised and they'll all be dicing together with lots of passes and re-passes.
Reality, I think will be a strung out field according to who has got the best car that day. It's still a procession.. just a longer, more spread out one.

It will mean the fastest guys out there will get the results they deserve, rather than being stuck behind a slower car that is playing games with strategy.

How many times must we beg for this BF? It's patently obvious to anyone who knows anything about racing cars.......Actually, that explains why they don't do anything about it, I guess?
(Oh, and black is the best colour for the Brera SV, obviously)
