Re: How to make F1 interesting?

I like the idea where there are two shorter races over the whole day with start positions reversed for the second race and points awarded over the whole field, ie 31 cars 35pts for first, 31 for 2nd, 1point for last this would mean all the teams would have an increased incentive so there would be real racing throughout the field.

Oh yes and machine guns mounted on every car.....erm.. sorry thats just me isn't it ?

Re: How to make F1 interesting?

apparently Flavio Briattore is in favour of that format (two races, reversed grid on the second race, NOT the machine guns ). Read his comments this week, agrees that F1 is intrinsically boring for much of the race, particularly the last 30 mins.

At least if you reversed the grid postions you'd see lots of overtaking with fast car/driver combinations desperate to get by slower cars.

Re: How to make F1 interesting?

Couldn't disagree more on the reverse thing nonsense. There is no value and satisfaction from passing a slow car at least for the die hard F1 racing fan. You can not re-create some of the sublime passes e.g. Alonso on MS by forcing ferraries at the back. It is just nonsense! Not only that but if it's implemented then there will be a natural "gentleman's agreement" for the slow cars to move off and except the inevitable.
There is so much in F1 that i enjoy immensely but if your primary concern is the guy that doesn't understand or does not want to appreciate F1 more then a "time to kill" type of event then yeah, introduce reverse grids, team car swaps, reverse direction racing, maybe chess matches at each pit stop between drivers etc. Why are people so obsessed with trying to "fix" f1? It's almost perfect and we have been spoiled in recent seasons.

Re: How to make F1 interesting?

We actually had reverse grid in V8 Supercar racing here in Australia for a while...destroyed a lot of cars and no one was happy who actually raced cars....no gentlemans agreement as the slower cars wanted to win....

F1 has got itself tied up in reducing costs but the cost reduction has been plowed back into Windtunnels and aerodynamic development....... net result cost reduction Zero.....

After several years we are actually seeing some racing but nothing like 20 years ago and earlier.

Passing in the pits is still a favourite past time and untill about 20 laps into the race we have no idea whether the car looking good is really just a low fuel con job.........MotoGP and Superbikes is real racing with people putting their life on the line. F1 is billboard racing ......

Yep you're absoloutely right Peter, we have been spoiled. I've no idea how I'm going to get to sleep now that Hamilton is on the scene. I used to look forward to my Sunday naps. Don't know what F1 you've been watching these last few years, but perhaps like me you've been in a dream....or perhaps you're Bernie in disguise ?

PS It's Ferraris, sorry to be pedantic, but I thought it was important.

Re: How to make F1 interesting?

Mate, switch off! You do have a choice and instead of trying to fix f1 then switch completely to A1 or motoGP(superbikes) like Stori. And continue to have Sunday naps and let the ferraries be. Because we don't want to put ferraris at the back so they can pass spykers that are 3-4 seconds of the pace in order to keep precious fans like you awake.

OK, how about fancy dress....everyone in national costume and we could get Terry Wogan to commentate.

Plus... the pit crews can work on anybody's cars but their own.

Go on you turn now...

Oh sorry, no sense of humour I forgot....
