Aston to return to F1?

Someone posted me this, I'm not sure where its from originally:

"Could Aston Martin be aiming to compete in F1 racing for the first time since 1961?

That's one conclusion to be drawn from the boss of racing engineering specialist Prodrive Dave Richards' tight-lipped stance about the banner under which he'll be racing in 2008. A Prodrive spokesperson said: "We are continuing discussions with potential partners but we are not in a position to divulge the exact nature of these discussions, nor the parties involved."

Prodrive's intention to get into F1 was first announced in December 2005, but Prodrive has also said that it won't be racing under its own name.

However it does have a relationship with Aston Martin -- Prodrive implemented AM's racing programme for it -- and with Aston Martin out of Ford's shadow since Ford's entry into F1 using the Jaguar banner was not a happy event, this could give the iconic firm the freedom to compete in the world's most prestigious racing series.

What about a motor? We hear that Aston Martin could even link up with Cosworth to re-badge its now-unused V8 engine.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this one. While you can be sure that a modern Aston Martin F1 car won't be using the company's VH aluminium chassis architecture, or that classic grille, you can also be sure that most of the rumours swirling round F1 are totally untrue...

The last car to score any success for AM in F1 was the outclassed but beautiful DBR4 in 1959"

In every step, I hear your sobbing
Dare I break the shade with one caress
Dare I trespass to lift the veil
To touch the lips so soft and frail

It may be that love comes once and once only, preceded by rehersal, followed by regret.

Re: Aston to return to F1?

This is from Autoblog I believe.

There is speculation also that Prodrive could work in partnership with Nissan (essentially as a junior team to Renault) or Hyundai, both of which have been rumoured to be taking an interest in the series.

Re: Aston to return to F1?

As a thought, could Prodrive's relationship with Subaru come to anything? Subaru had a crack at F1 in 1990 as an engine supplier to Coloni with a horribly outdated and overweight flat 12.

Subaru have links with Toyota (They own 20% or so of the company.) So maybe something could come to fruitition here.
