WTCC 2006 Season
Istanbul results: Tarquini wins 2nd race, Zanardi wins 1st race.
Regarding Zanardi, I know he drives a Beamer, but you've got to give it to the guy that he's a hell of a man

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Yup it's good to see Alex Zanardi displaying his undoubted talent again, but personally I'm routing for the drivers and manufacturers titles to go to SEAT and not BMW !!

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
SEAT's top of the table now, looking good really, with Spiderman Tarquini (remember his F1 helmet? ) driving strong.

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Oh yes !! I'd like to see JT back up there so at least the WTCC drivers crown will remain in the UK !!
With the money that SEAT (VAG) are throwing at this championship and their driver line up they shouldn't be any other result thought eh ??

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Here is a quick translation:
<<The news not only had been in the air for a while, but we also had received some confirmation last summer: in the next WTCC, we should see the 147, as well as the 159, probably until the 149 arrives.
Now though, Auto Industry reveals another indiscretion: the decision to race again with the 147 would have been formally approved for September, and most importantly there should be 4 petrol and... 2 diesel! Autosport doesn't mention the diesel cars. Plain rumor, or truth?>>

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
I am rooting for Andy Priaulx or Farfus or Tarquini.
I can't decide whether it is better for an english winner (3rd time in a row if he made it), an Alfa (even tho's it is an old model with a lenient handicap), or the guy who has played the best 'long-game' all season - pick up points regularly, rarely getting too heavy, mostly playing fair.
I have hated all the panel bashing that has gone on this season - the SEAT drivers seem to have been the most cynical - especially Yvan Muller.
The WTCC needs to urgently review the penalties they hand out & use stronger penalties (see DTM for examples).
Ideally it should be a basically non-contact sport.

don't mention Z4

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Oh yes, and I cannot wait for Alfa to run the 159 next season.
Let us hope they find a way of trimming all the excess lard & then bring out a proper gta as a road car.

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Watched a bit on Eurosport this morning.
I'm not a big motorsport fan personally but, with competitions like WTCC & BTCC who needs F1? It's like watching paint dry! In comparison, the WTCC stuff this morning was fantastic.

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Last race this year from Macau, Farfus leading the championship in his 156 GTA, the only down side is he has an 80kg weight penalty, i wish him luck, i think he will need it.
He won the first race there last year so fingers crossed.

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
More to the point, when's it on telly?
The most entertaining motorsport I've found to watch, other than the BTCC, is the Australian V8 Supercars V8 power, rear-drive, plenty of contact, 30-odd car grids, different front-runners every time and good old Aussie commentary on Motors TV too!

Re: WTCC 2006 Season
Just answered my own question:
British Eurosport 3am LIVE on Sunday morning, repeated at 5.30am, again at 7.30am and then again at 8pm.
