Re: F1 2007 Season
I see the FIA are appointing a srutineer to make sure Mclaren give F.A and L.H equality. Is it me, but what the ****** has it got to do with the FIA.
If a team has only one piece of new kit they decide who's car to put it, I can't remember the FIA ever helping Massa, Barrichslow or Irvine out when Scum-macher was driving and had the pick of anything new.
I am getting so fed up with mad max, I hope Jackie Stewart sues his *** off!

They're doing it because when FA 'told tales' to the FIA about the McLaren-Ferrari affair, the FIA said they'd take a dim view of McLaren punishing him for it. FA seems to be suggesting that he is being punished, so the FIA are taking steps to make sure everything is above board. If the FIA didn't do this, then FA could complain forever onwards about how he was cheated out of the title. Assuming he doesn't win it.
It's different from the MS-RB deal: at Ferrari, the two drivers and the team were working toward a common goal, namely for MS to win the title (it's rumoured this was even in RB's contract), whereas the situation at McLaren would be that one driver and the team were working against the other driver. Which isn't really fair. Whatever your view on the equality Massa and RB had within Ferrari, they knew what they were getting when they signed up.
That said, I'd be surprised if McLaren were doing anything to hinder FA.

I must confess that I disagree. Many things Ferrari did were to Irvines, RB's etc interests. Surely McLaren should be able to decide which of their drivers gets preferential treatment regarding pit stops, when they go out for qualifying etc etc...

I agree, but what they can't do is 'accidentally' over-inflate the tyres on one of their driver's cars, 'accidentally' put half-a-turn too much wing on, etc.
I don't think the scrutineer will have any problem with run-of-the-mill sporting issues within the team, just any un-sporting issues.
How they determine which is which is the tricky bit, and it's not a job I'd envy.

Re: F1 2007 Season
It is just one more thing that Maclaren have to worry about. Hopefully it will distract them enough that Kimi can win the championship and everyone at the FIA will be very Happy.

Perhaps they'll soon introduce regs that prevent any non red cars from winning championships. That's the way F1 has been run for the last few years anyways.....

Re: F1 2007 Season
I really dislike that Alonso bloke now. we should have read the runes last year when he accused Renault of trying to lose him the championship.....as if.
Latin temperament...my ****. He's a fully paid up scheming little paranoid git. He will fit in well at Ferrari where they win arrogantly and lose badly. As for the FIA overseeing MaClaren...Oh joy! I have been amazed at how fairly both the MAc drivers have been treated, and veiled accusations of tyre pressure tampering last weekend by Alonso are just the mindless murmurings of a bloke who has lost the plot as to how to conduct himself with any shred of dignity. I wouldn't sab the car, but i'd put Senokot in his energy drink.
Oddly enough, whilst I want Lewis to win, I would not complain if Kimi won the championship as he has worked hard and quietly from a dismal start where many so called Ferrari supporters were calling for his sacking!!!. He has established himself as the lead Ferrari driver by simply going out and doing his job, and I admire him for it.

I totally agree with everything you've said, and I think the way the FIA are handling this is a disgrace.

Re: F1 2007 Season
But what could the FIA have done otherwise? They did receive a formal request from a member of FIA (the head of the Spanish Automobile Society)?

Re: F1 2007 Season
But to treat Michael's team-mates fairly, you'd have to put an extra 200kg on Michael's car to slow him down

And footage of the Kennedy assassination quite clearly shows a man wearing a red shirt *in the crowd*
Probably you only been watching F1 for a couple of seasons... or is 2005 beyond your recall now..?

Yeah - they'd nicked the Ferrari's plans for their steering geometry

Re: F1 2007 Season
No, that's the hole point of most of the posts in this thread.Michael didn't need any help he was God, a compleat master of the art but Ferrari still engineered race results to benefit the driver that the team wanted to win and with one exception the FIA said and did nothing.
What has changed?
Sorry but this is really starting to P*** me off. (the FIA not People on here)

I am actually not so p**d off at the FIA but Bernie. He's the real mastermind behind all that's been going on in F1 for the last 30 years!

The big difference is that with Ferrari, the driver who was being forced to come second knew when he signed up that he would have to do that. All three of them (the lead driver, the second driver, and the team) knew what was going on and were happy with it.
If Alonso's claims are valid, which I doubt, the situation at McLaren is that both drivers were supposed to be treated equally, but since Alonso gave information to the FIA which showed McLaren in a bad light, he has been disadvantaged by the team as a punishment. And (he seems to claim) it's not just 'normal' stuff like Hamilton getting a new aero part before he does, it involves deliberately changing things on Alonso's car to make it go slower.
At Ferrari, everyone got what they signed up for. At McLaren, Alonso claims he's being victimised. After he gave his statement, the FIA said they would look closely at McLaren to make sure this didn't happen, so they're looking closely.
I don't expect McLaren will be doing anything underhand, but having the FIA scrutineer is their only chance to prove their innocence.
