Thumbs Up WTCC 2006 Kicks Off

Monza.

OK. So Alfa don't have a full factory team this year, but the N Technology (Monica & Mauro Sipsz) semi works run 156's looked good today amidst all the carnage

At last. Something to smile about this weekend Well done Farfus Jnr for winning the 2nd race

He resisted Zanardi's bully boy tactics really well

First race was a bit of a shambles though

Great racing

Did you hear the comment that the 149 will be next years car?

Hardly surprising, as the 159, like me, is a bit fat

Looking forward to the rest of the season

Cheers,

Simon

Re: WTCC 2006 Kicks Off

Is it as good as it used to be?

I used to be an avid follower up to the early to mid 90's but when the cars starting to sprout wings, then appear to become a one make race series (all vauxhalls and protons) I lost interest.

What manufacturers race now Simon?

Re: WTCC 2006 Kicks Off

I think you are thinking of the BTCC?

THe World Touring Cars (WTCC) is pretty new, its first year was last year but is an expansion of the previous European Touring cars (ETCC).

ETCC and WTCC used to come down to an Alfa Vs BMW battle by the end of the season, each won it twice over the last 4 years.
Depending on the track it can be very exciting at times because of the three race format, and reversed grid.
Can be boring if the track suits FWD or RWD much more.
There are a fair few other marques but I think Seat were the only other real contender last year.

Missed todays one, must check for a replay.

Cheers,
TB

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: WTCC 2006 Kicks Off

This year there are 3 manafacturer backed teams : BMW, Seat & Chevrolet.
Alfa is not factory backed this year, there are also a couple of Hondas and a Peugeot competing and Lada are to join the championship later in the season.

Also it's 2 races (BTCC is 3 races)

See the website for more info : http://www.fiawtcc.com/

I think WTCC is a far more exciting championship than F1, I know which I'll be following this year

Good luck to Alfa for the rest of the season.
Dave

Alfa, BMW, Chevrolett, Seat (x 36). Truth be told, Seat are top of the pile but ANYTHING can happen - & usually does
