Re: F1 2006 season

Schumi set the fastest lap of the day yesterday at Jerez with the new engine (and old car). The Red Baron is alive and kicking!

.....not so old…..see modified.... "old" is relative in f1. The cars are always evolving and changing especially to accommodate the new engine.

Sorry to hear about your health troubles and I wish you a speedy recovery. No hard feelings.

Back on topic, then. You know nothing will surprise me in f1. I don’t think that these guys are as loyal as you are to their respective teams and I don’t blame them. I mean look at Alonso- he immediately secured a contract with a big team after he won the championship and he probably would have moved in 06 if there was a place for him in McLaren and he was without a contract even faster then MS when he was the champ in Benetton. All that is important to them is having a competitive car (and a big budget) underneath them…. that’s all. It can be a Daewoo and it won’t matter. Toyota is more then serious about f1 with the money they’ve spent so far and will spend in the future. And they can afford it. It was a massive project for them and I think all their effort will pay off in the near future. As for MS well… it’s easy for us to say retire while on top (I remember when Damon Hill was bumped and switched to Arrows- it was a sad sight to see him trying to have dignity in a mediocre car) but to them it doesn’t matter they have to drive no matter what .

Re: F1 2006 season

Question for you lot: Last year (if memory still works) we had a new addition to the F1 vernacular: Doing a Sato (ie. pointlessly ramming into someone's car from a no-hope overtaking position).

Will anyone else in the grid this year be granted such an illustrious accolade?

Ideas?

By the way, apologies to all for involuntarily raising the Senna vs Rest of the World issue discussed in previous posts!

Kimi may well go a bit Banzi if the Ronster gives him another fragile (and Orange) ride

They should make it more like F1 on the PS2. That would be funny. Damage off & go for it It always works for me

"Doing a Henry"

I read in Autocar (c/o F1 correspondent Alan Henry) that as there will apparently be "so many teams introducing new cars next season..." that Schumacher will have to be at his very best if he's to win an 8th World Crown.

Obviously Mr Henry is far more experienced and knowledgable than I, but don't most of the teams introduce a new car EVERY season?

Class editorial...

Re: F1 2006 season

Well Alonso is back on pace in an all new… true 06 spec Renault R26. He clocked 1:18.512 during testing in Jerez. But the most interesting thing is that the McLaren V8 is nowhere to be seen. So rumors are flying (mostly negative) - word around the paddocks is: allegedly the V8 was sent back for a complete redesign. McLaren deny this of course and continue to test the restricted V10.

Yep… and Schumacher will drive an old Volvo in 06 with a restricted engine.
Unless I’m very much mistaken……

They always do but last years wasn't "that" great

Apparently, the first 35 laps with the new car (Schumi at the wheel) were with falling snow

F1 in the snow....now that would be interesting

Apart from the fact that both have 2 front wheels...
Not really.

Ok then it’s just me. What was I thinking. Maybe it is more similar to Ferrari 05.

Re: F1 2006 season

There seem to be a few schools of though.. the Ferrari/BMW extra winglet and the scooped out regular wing used by everyone else, except Regie who use the bi-plane front wing.
