Just saw on Sky News that the WRC Rally Wales/GB has been canceled.

Marco Martins Peugeot WRC car crashed at speed into a tree on stage 15 and he was injured.Micheal Park, his co-driver was very sadly killed in the crash. So as a mark of respect the to Micheal and his family the rally has been called off.Very sad day for the rallying world.

Pity - in my opinion rallying should not be done near trees, cliff's, rocks or spectators. What amazes me is that there is not more accidents of this type.

I was looking forward to watching the highlights of the rally on TV tonight. I'm not now.

It's sad, but it's also part of the sport. They know that being hurt or killed is always a possibility.

However, I REALLY feel sad for his family, THAT is the real tragedy...

His death is sad, no doubt about that.
But if i lost my life doing something i love to the best of my ability i wouldn't want it to be cancelled because of me, i would want it to continue and for the people taking part to enjoy it more than they've ever done.
I would hate to deprive anybody else of the experience that rallly would give them, i would want them to experience it to the full. I would know the risks and i would choose to take them as an adult, why should anyone else be affected by my decision?
Obviously a very personal choice with no right or wrong choice, but that would be mine.

As for not rallying near trees/cliffs etc, that is an essential part of rallying and makes the motor sport what it is. If the drivers didn't want to do it they can turn to track racing as an alternative.
Why shouldn't sane adults be allowed to take risks that involve their own lives?

Quinn is Tintin, Q is Betty Boop, LeeBex is Mr Benn, Wrinxy Jinxy is a whole Agatha Christie suspense novel by himself. AJ's not a bear but BazzaKarhu the earth pig is. Debs is the Essex Pink Orange fiend. Jason is Marlon, i'm Marlon, Marlon is Spartacus. Chris155 (Andy's dad) ate all the pies. AlfaJack, you b*stard! Jimbo's a superstar. Re: WRC Rally Wales called off/Marco Martins Co.Driver killed

It is a great loss to the rallying world and agree that news coverage has been scarce. Unfortunately all motorsport has dangers and obviously a situation like this only highlights the fact.

I have been a radio marshal for the past 12 years and have seen my fair share of accidents, I was at the event that tragically took the lives of the family in Northubria which was quite prevelant in the news a few years ago, I was also at the Welsh rally this weekend, however left on the Saturday evening so wasn't party to the sad event.

However in these 12 years these incidents are few and far between, obvisouly I'm not condoning the loss of life, just that thankfully it is a rare occurance.

Anyone who has Marshalled or been involved in the rallying worls will surely agree rallying has come along way over the years and the amount of preperation and safety work that goes into an event would surprise you. Saftety is the number one priority on any event!
