Re: F1 season 2005

To be honest, this smells of the FIA making a point, since according to this:
http://www.formula1.com/news/2939.html
the FIA were already aware of the extra tank before this all happened!

"The focus of the hearing was a small, secondary fuel tank on Button’s car, which the FIA admitted they were aware of."

But when the "small secondary tank" is empty the car is well under the minimum weight.

If the compartment is not-accesable by fuel pump you could argue it was liquid ballast. Whether that would be legal I do not know.

Obviously, what ever the situation really is, with the ban, BAR have been found to have been cheating!

As were Ferrari in Malaysia in 1999, when the FIA had their cars re-instated!

Get that if you will.

You're missing my point. If the system was illegal, and the FIA were aware of it before it was used in a race, why did they not inform the team that they would not be allowed to use it?
Seeing that BAR have challenged the FIA over things in the past, it seems to me like an excuse for them to flex their muscles and 'show who's boss'.

Once again, just as it was seeming we might have some racing on our hands, the FIA have turned F1 back into a political circus

Well the tank design may not be illegal. However the fact that the car has to weigh a minimum amount when the fuel tank is empty, seems to be the issue.
Also until there is clarification of where the fuel pick up is , we will have no idea of whether Bar was attempting to cheat or maybe to use a "liquid" weight distribution system (Do not know whether the later would be legal or not)

The thing is in this case though, is that the stewards asked BAR to drain their cars fuel tank. We've done it was the reply when they had infact left 15litres in. Its the deception that really riled the FIA imho.

Ferrari were actually within the rules, that is why they were reinstated.

I can't remember the figures, but the measurements were within allowed manufacturing tolerance. Example........if you machine accurately to within 0.1mm (say), you can aim for 109.8mm (if a 10% tolerance is allowed) and still meet the rules. If you can only be 10% accurate, you have to aim for 99.9mm, yet this could leave you with 90mm, or 109.9mm - potentially vast differences

Of course - the tolerance allowance was far too high given the precision that F1 demands, so yet again, it was the rulemakers looking stupid.

don't mention Z4

Re: F1 season 2005

Sadiki,

What are you talking about Michelin tyres are fantastic

Finally Raikkonen got his luck! Brilliant qualifying, brilliant race. The Iceman is back. I hope he can continue like this and fight over the championship with Alonso. That would be great .

Toyota are doing a splendid job too. And I won't even mention the current world champions

Yes, no doubt Sadiki, great race from Kiwi.

Toyoda is also doing a great job.

But what the feck are those guys doing with "B" tires!?! I would like to see Ferrari runing with "M" tires.
