Re: Formula 1

Lucky? Did I watch a different race? I saw Michael fighting his way up from 17th spot to second spot and most of the times he overtook the opponent on the track and not in the pitlane. I really enjoyed it.

Re: Formula 1

Ole Rubinho!!!!
A great pole position and a fantastic race for one of the most underrrated drivers ever. It was high time Rubens scored a win and all of us great fans of Rubinho are very excited

Re: Formula 1

In case anyone had any delusions that the pack were catching up with Ferrari, they scuppered them this weekend.
MS spun out on the first lap, and RB had to go in after 3 laps to change his tyres, so they both gifted EVERYONE on the track a good 20 seconds or more head-start. And it ends with a Ferrari 1-2.

Yes, there was some good overtaking, but it was a bit artificial, it only occurred because the 2 people with by far the fastest cars found themselves at the back. In reality it's the same old story. Ferrari are on a different planet to their competitors.
Basically, for Button to get his maiden win, they're both going to have to crash out.

Chinese F1 update:

M. Schumacher spun out on the first corner in qualifying! He's starting 3rd from last. Should make for an interesting race!!!

Re: Formula 1

Another win for Rubens!!! Great race in the end... MS had a terrible weekend, but good to see him having to drive up the field for a change!

Re: Formula 1

Well I suspect that rubino had better enjoy it while he can, because once MS has finished having his 2004 GP holiday, then Rubino will find that 2005 is a new cricket match and second or lower will again be his thing

Well I am the last person to question the skill and value of a 7 times World Champion but, if my memory serves me right, before the new regulations he got need of some "team tactics" to have an earlier 2003 G.P. holiday and Rubinho provided them

Team tactics have always be used to maximise the chances of one person in a team winning the world championship.

This year Rubino looked rather "average" except when MS had already won the world Championship.

So the question is ," has Rubino found a form that will be sufficient to consistently beat MS in 2005 assuming that MS is not "passed it" in 2005"

I think that this works as an argument for my view since this makes the judgement unfair on the second guy. And if we take into account that the general team tactics in Scuderia have a strong 1st-2nd driver color this proves my point further. Imagine if the whole team's set up and management (car wise and race tactics) was designed on Rubens.

I am afraid that this is not quite true. Rubens has scored fastest race laps (a fair criterion in my view) in G.P. Canada and Indianapolis (before winning the Championship), pole position in Indianapolis (also before) and pole, fastest lap and win in Monza (after) and pole and race in China (also after) mind you with the team's whole pressure on him alone.
I don't want to remind you about the pit stops in 2003 (costed Rubens at least a win and 3 podium places).

I want to repeat that with my remarks I don't want to underestimate Michael who has proven beyond any doubt that he is one of the greatest drivers ever in F1

Re: Formula 1

Im afriad that Rubens will always be the baggage boy at Ferrari. Its MS's team and he calls the shots. Why do you think those pit stops cost him valueable points and podiums - Mr Shumasher did not want him to have them.
Eddie Ervine tried to pass him once and Shumacher was so enraged he drove his car into a wall and broke his leg. The Ferrari knives were out for Eddie after that.
Noted that today's Jap GP was not covered by Irish TV until a few minutes before the race started. Must be declining TV viewers I suppose. Not that RTE's pre race coverage will be missed. ITV do a much better job.

similar here in OZ but we did have the Bathurst 1000 km on during the Japanese Grand prix....so at least a useful excuse
