Thumbs Up John Surtees OBE...at last

Congratulations to John Surtees on his OBE. A phenomenal driver and rider. I don't think we will see his like again. It still annoys me that he hasn't been knighted. World champion FI and motorcycles...amazing follow the link to learn more

Re: John Surtees OBE...at last

Well I suppose its recognition of a kind, but as you say, a knighthood would have been more appropriate.

It could be he had a 'black mark' against him for winning all those races on/in Italian machinery

Seen him race a few times in the early 60s, though I can't remember what he was driving.

Re: John Surtees OBE...at last

I watched John race at the Nurburgringring (back in the 60's). He was chasing a couple of Porsches in his Ferrari. His skill (and courage) was amazing.

Unfortunately he broke the steering wheel (!) and had to retire.

I used to love the 1000km races at the ring.

Well deserved award

[now where's the knighthood for Murray]
