Le Mans - Anyone going??

Anyone off to Le Mans this year? There are 12 of us going on Thursday to Monday under the guise of the RustyRingRacing team - look out for our light blue shirts with logos and the big 24 on our backs.

Unfortunately, we are not taking an Alfa (I can't afford the mileage on my lease) but we do have the following convoy:

Chipped R32 Golf GTI - takes your breath away
1999 Corvette 5.7l V8 - beautiful in red
Porsche 911 Carrera 4 - black wheels, stunning
Lamborghini Guilardo - no comments needed

and

A Toyota Land Cruiser for all the gear!!!

Haven't been for ages (2000 was last time) but the race is never far from my thoughts.

Somebody (I forget who) once said 'If there were only to be one race per year, then this (Le Mans) should be it'

Yup we are in Tetre Rouge, although the place is like a river at present according to reports.

That is a cool convoy and have a great time. I'll be further south at Key Camp en famille but will try and tune in.

Watch for the pesky traffic cops. They love to bag a Brit speeder, allegedly.

We're going back in 2009 (the missus has agreed )

I don't mind missing this year too much, with a pretty much guaranteed diesel power victory, but hopefully with the new fuel regs, 2009 should be a much closer affair.

Yep, I'm going for the first time. Always wanted to go and finally got around to it. Not taking the GTV unfortunately - ferry is all booked up under my bro's Mini Cooper and we've paid the £10 fee to change the car once already This does, of course, mean that I am free to drink unlimited cider

No, no, no. It is written in law (at least it should be) that all visitors to les 24 heures du Mans must drink only cheap lager from dumpy green bottles.

and keep your bottles to build a beer mountain like these guys!

Oh the bottle mountain is a must - we are busy sourcing a fridge that will hold 24 cans and run off the mammoth batteries on the Land Cruiser!!

I am fully aware of my legal obligations but i'm from the west country and, when camping, I drinks cider

Nice!!! We will be in a white Golf GTI in the morning with a double orange stripe down the middle and our RRR logo on it.

So how was it for everybody??? I had an AMAZING time, will definitely be going again, top race and great atmosphere. Didn't see many alfas although there were 2 lovely old 60's ish spiders and a coupe of some sort on our campsite. Very nice indeed

Finally got home at about 2am this morning, spent today trying to sort out wet tent etc. and have to drive to Corby first thing in the morning for a meeting When's a man supposed to sleep?

I got back yesterday at 8am, it was my 1st Le Mans and I can't wait for next year.  I had a fab time and I took my red 75 TS (anyone see burn outs or donuts?) with some great guys from Sussex coastal AROC, aka Avea More Vino.  The garage (in Beasejour) included 2 Kamm Tail Spiders, 1 black, 1 white, a red boat tail, a dark blue Guileta Spider and a rally prep'd red Guileta Sport, my 75 and a white transit, oh yeah there was a red F355 Spider as well...

The journey there and back was great, the D438 via Rouen and Alencon both ways, flat out and non-stop, perfect for the 75!

Fantastic time, our campsite had loads of Alfas - 159SW next to us and a silver 156, burgundy 156 further up and a Old Red Spider. Also saw a Red Brera and a couple of silver GTS. Saw a 156 Selespeed do a burn out - how'd he do that then???

Will be there next year!!

Had an absolutely brilliant time, will be back next year for sure.
We stayed in Houx - I spotted a dutch 147GTA, a black GTV near the bogs and a couple of nice 159 wagons. Thought there would be more Alfa's to be honest.

Really fancy going next year, how about we get a big group of us to go down together?
