Re: nurburgring 2008
Dawie-Glenwood Motors replaced the Group A type midpipe of my Supersprint system with his own midsection that he used on the race car 147GTA's in the SA Production Race Series. There was a nice power gain but it really quietened the car but gave it such a beautifull snarl.
I can ask him to see if he is interested in exporting them?
I'm well below the 95db limit so all should be ok, I hope?
Ciao

Re: nurburgring 2008
Noise and very visual itmes will be the trigger to pull you over as mentioned. Kat replcament will be difficult to say, OEM muffler (the final one ) will be very helpfull to get you through.
Let's first wait and see what will happen. Early Januari, both Geux and I (along others) will visit and keep our eyes + ears open to report back what the real situation looks like.
From my personal perspective: I think that this is the first step though. In the next couple of years this will be enforced much more strict. Also: the amount of days open to Touristenfahrten is being brought down (last year also): hardly any days during the week. The big money is taking over from enthusiasts unfortunately

Re: nurburgring 2008
I'm not used to this sort of strict track day regs. In South Africa track days are pretty much open & full race type vehicles will run alongside more mundane machinery.
I have heard comments from chaps that have been in the UK etc commenting how easy the SA motoring enthusiasts' have it etc but I thought that was a bit of an exagerration at the time, seems not?
Once the green brigade is finished, if ever, there will not be much one could do to enjoy a performance car other than maybe virtual reality games I suppose.
Ciao

Yep, and it looks like this is a sneaky way to save the German economy; as only German products have Tuv as standard...

My car is noisier than standard yes but not that much(full Supersprint system from manifold to tailpipe).Basically if someone pops the hood there is nothing that shouts out loud that this is a modified car as it's NA.
It would be a shame to make such a trek & not be allowed on the track but in my case showing the car to other Alfisti who can check out the big brakes, coil overs, roll bars,BBS 19's etc...., in itself will for me clear up some issues. Postings, photo's etc can only do so much, presenting the car for many AO members to see, well that's a different matter all together.
I will keep checking to see when the date is, hopefully it all works out at a suitable time.
Ciao
It would be great for you 'Monster' to be allowed to run with the others

Re: nurburgring 2008
Yes it would. Don't know if the locals in M3's, 911's etc would like to see a little Italian hatchback overtaking them though?
That would then ban my Alfa for life...........................????

I doubt it. The officials wouldn't be able to catch you from the sounds of things!

Re: nurburgring 2008
I hope you will be in good humour if the real locals are overtaking you (and everybody else) in their little stripped out golfs and Peugot 106 gtis
Literally anything can overtake anything else depending on the driver difference and track knowledge - power doesn't help as much as you would think here until you really know the circuit.
In which case it does help
..but so does the light weight of stripped out focussed cars which can carry lots of speeds through the trickiest sections.
Encounter them on a tricky section (e.g. Wipperman) and they would demolish a road car, encounter them on an uphill straight and of course its good fun leaving them behind, but of course you will have tricky balancing through sequence of almost flat-out dangerous corners where the little pursuers will be pedal to the metal.
It wasn't until my second visit that I got below 9 minutes regularly.
I would hope with some decent track time on my next visit to break 8min 30 next year, but only at that point would I feel relative comfort from really well driven very modestly powered stripped out cars
cheers,
TB

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: nurburgring 2008
dont really need lessons, watch videos, play the track and learn it. it will help to a degree then track knowledge will fill in the blanks when you drive on for real. ask some of the more experianced drives to drive with you and they could help you drive the correct line, braking zones ect...
most will be more then happy to help!
PS, i am not implying myself as i have only 12 laps under my belt! ask someone with at least 50 or so laps under theirs

I was reffering to actually how to drive the car properly. As you know I'm a bit of a crap driver atm.
