Re: ICS videointerface - Alfa 166

this sounds like a really cool and fairly easy mod for the ICS....time to start gathering the parts

Re: ICS videointerface - Alfa 166

I'm also fine with only B/W picture. But color would be nice. But the converters I've found are as you say more expensive then the cameras.

Re: ICS videointerface - Alfa 166

Just make sure it's a PAL camera... It looks a lot like the one I ordered (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5891), which is NTSC. Have sent a request to cancel the order, but no harm done since it's only $24.

They also have this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8317 It doesn't say if it's NTSC or PAL, but the picture of the box says PAL, so I've sent them an email asking. And you don't have to pay shipping costs at all, which is rather sweet.

Did you design this yourself, or are they available somewhere? I've seen external boxes you can buy to get this, but they are rather expensive...

Re: ICS videointerface - Alfa 166

Ok, and since I don't know anything about converting video signals, would it be possible to get some insider tips? Or buy a gizmo from you? Or are you still just teasing us?

Re: ICS videointerface - Alfa 166

Hmm all very interesting reading, was wondering if something like his could be used,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=005

to give full digital tv to the ics unit?

Yes, but you need a converter from component video to RGB, otherwise you will only get black and white picture.

So something like this would handle the conversion?

http://www.howtoconvert.co.uk/howcomponent2rgb.htm,

Wondering if it would be possible to fit a changeover switch so as to change between different sources, like the reverse camera, digital tv or dvd, oh the possibilities!

How to do it ?
First download and print the documents. Then:

The pin no.5 on the green 26pin connector must be connected to the ground (ICS chassis) to switch the ICS to TV mode.
Everything you need to do then is to take some SCART to SCART video cable, dissasembly one SCART connector and solder pins on the requested wires (just see the documents). It`s necessary to connect ground signals for red, green and blue to one wire and then to pin 3 on the black connector. Next important wire is wire 20 on scart connector (composite video in), it must be connected to pin no.17 on ICS black connector (to sync the picture). Then just connect other wires for red, green, blue and audio and it`s done.

Be sure to have regular RGB/Scart output on your DVD player, DVD with composite video out with simple reduction to SCART will not work ! Or use some converter.
Good luck !
IT WORKS !
With only one change: you havet to connect video sinc to scart pin 19 and not to 20.

Two videos:

I hope this helps, this is the way I did it.

Sorry for bad scheme, I`m not an electrician, but in general:
black connector pin to Scart pin
5 to switch GND for TV
23 to 3
24 to 4

green connector pin to Scart pin
3 to 5, 9, 13
4 to 15
5 to 11
17 to 19
18 to 7

Power for player you can get from lighter or ICS euro power connector
GND for switch I got from ICS housing.
