I wonder if Loudlink can play uncompressed formats. For instance if you copy a whole CD to an SD-memory card. This would probably give the best audiophile sound.
"How many has been sold?" Sorry, I cannot answare for this question.
Yes, stable, but not finished at this moment.
(playlist is coming..for example....)
You can update firmware easily:
Take a look: http://www.loudlink.eu/downloads.html
I'm using it ~every day since 2 month, and it is absolutly useable, and stable! (there are some minor bugs, like freezing when jump an empty directory...but the one of the next firmware will fix it.)
Playing WAV files:
Audio decoder chip inside Loudlink is able to play WAVs .
But the software at this moment - not.
If the CPU inside Loudlink is fast enough to transfare WAV datas from SD to decoder..............................it' s a question at this moment.
I'll answare soon.

what's the biggest SD card the player can use? Does it support the newer 4gb and 8gb ones or is 2gb the max?

Yes, you're right, Mitch. It was unfair of Arnold to say that. The only time money isn't important is when you have plenty of it!

Tony, take it easy!
I'm just kidding. See the smiley at the end of the sentence...
But you know...I am suprised. That was the reason of this "joke".
The hungarian peoples doesn't say it is overpriced or similar...What I looked several times here...
But Hungary is not the richest country in EU...
And the hungarian alfa owners not the richest hungarian peoples.
They are working hard, day after day....
And last: for EUR178 you can get aprox 160L gasoline.
My alfa166 2.5V6 average consumption 13L/100km.
It is just 1230km.............not too much.

That's true. It's just a question of priorities, I guess. You could always sit in the car on your driveway for a few weeks and just listen to music .

Re: Alfa 166 CD changer emulator, mp3 player -> www.loudlink.eu
Hi!
Arnold is it posible with loudlink to skip 10 songs whit a press of a button - doesn't matter which button, the important thing is that i could go from 1. to 50. song with 5 strokes and not 50!
Maybe with one of the next firmware updates?
I would suggest button for "CD-if pressed twice" or right main navigation button...?

This is one of the downsides which was mentioned earlier in the thread. At present, you have to hit the > button as many times as necessary, which could take some time if you've got a lot of tracks. Maybe improved functionality will be added later, as you say. Mind you, if it's only possible to skip 10 at a time, it still doesn't necessarily get you where you want to be! Unless you have a photographic memory, you won't know which track number is the one you want without skipping through them! What you really need is to be able to display more detailed track information and navigation functions - as with an iPod - on the ICS itself but this is apparently not supported by the 166 ICS...

Go from 1. to 50. song is only one stroke. Backward.
Go from 4. to 40. song is only 14 stroke. Backward too.
The fast reverse button use for skip 10 songs?
Or if you pressed for example more than 3times within 1 second the FWD, or RWD button it mean skip 10 song FWD, RWD.
Which one is preferred?
playlist can work similar...up/down directory level with 3 times pressed within 1 sec FWD/RWD button.
Hm?

That is if you have 50 songs in folder - i wrote my post if you would have 98 songs in 1 folder.
And i believe that the best solution would be that that you mentioned; press FWD button 3 times skip 10 songs forward, press RWD button 3 times skip 10 songs backward.
Don't know if it is possible but maybe the coolest thing would be - if there was a line under the shuflle and scan with name "go to song" and that you could just turn the right main button to select a number(1-98) and then press it to select the song number you want (similar to setting the speed limit) - like i said don't know if this is even possible (this would probably mean that you should have to change ICS software right?)
And i understand that you cannot see tags but still beter solution - is there someone that would know how to hack into ICS and change the software - adding some lines llike i mentioned above and maybe even to make it show tags - i know i'm dreaming

I don't understand this whole skipping a song thing. Why would you have anything on your SD card you don't want to listen to?

What? Different moods ring any bells? . Metal first thing in the morning? Jazz when you want Rock? Classical when you can't appreciate it because of the noise outside? Heavy political analysis Podcast at the end of a long day? etc. etc.
If you have a decent selection of material, the whole point of an MP3 player is to be able to quickly and easily select what you want at any moment. That's why the iTunes/iPod interface is so good and why future in-car MP3 players will no doubt emulate it.

Re: Alfa 166 CD changer emulator, mp3 player -> www.loudlink.eu
The weird combination of Rammstein and Pink Floyd used to work for me at any time of the day/night (e.g. washing the car while listening to Sehnsucht, and Final Cut when you wax her), but I understand your point, so here is my workaround for you.
Use the CD1-CD6 folders for the different type of music. Up to 98 songs each, let's say not all 59 seconds long Ramones or 15 minutes long Jan Garbarek, so that's 98*3 minutes = about 5 hours of music of each type.
p. s. btw different moods? I'm always a happy bunny when I'm driving my Alfa, and I'm not a girl either to have "moods"

Exactly... alfa166 is not tamagochi.
I've used this player from several month. Sometimes I've pressed FWD button...when the song is more different than wheather. )
"You bring on the sun...papappapa" - I hate it when raining. )

Re: Alfa 166 CD changer emulator, mp3 player -> www.loudlink.eu
Fine, i decided to buy it , but not until i fix a cable problem - don't have one for sure (checked every corner in my trunc so can enyone tell me where can i buy the cable - cheap and do i just connect it to ICS or are there some other things to do, to make it work!? I only need 1m of cable or even less as i was planing to put loudlink somewhere inside my right compartement or maybe even where the cassete player is(I would take the player out) - will see.
The top priority is the cable!
