Post fit Sat Nav
Anyone know if it is possible to fit the original sat nav to a 166 and are they easy to get hold of second hand?
Cheers Alfamadman

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
There easy to fit! There are two models of sat-nav g2 and g3, g3 you can get upto date map updates, g2 only upto 2001.
Its plug and play, all you need to buy is an arial for it.

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
It depends on the modle and age of your car, if it has the wiring in it for the satnav unit. Mine didn't and took best part of a day to fit it, but I think worth it in the end. I fyou don't already have an ariel on the roof for the satnav don't get the original item, get an after market itme that fits on the back parcel self, much easier! Good luck finding a unit though!

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
Think I may have already sent you this but what do you want for it and as I'm yet to buy a 166 do I need a certain year/model? How easy is it to fit?
Cheers

I also have an ICS system for sale!

I was told that, unless the car had the wiring installed and the plug in the boot, it was not possible to retro fit. Can you send me some more details of what you did?

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
Bought a NAVman 530 £200 online, arrived the next day. Fantastic piece of kit. Very quick and accurate. Just working out some neat way to mount it in cabin, possible in the top dashboard cubby hole which I never use cos it woun't open easily!

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
where the CD changer is, take that pannal off, look behind the CD changer you should see a green plug and a gray one (i think), thats for your sat-nav. Then all you need to do is buy and sat nav unit! Although to be honest its only worth getting a G3 unit with upto date maps!....then send me a copy with the latest map update :-)

Can you get 1 from a breaker with working hinge
I thought it would make a good hiding place for a radar detector when they become illegal again - hinge from the catch side, and the detector could see out of the window
Alternatively - is there room underneath to mount a vertical DVD satnav (pioneer or equiv) - would be a neat way of upgrading the ICE

I'll check when I'm back in the UK again but, from memory, I think I looked before and there was no plug. If there is no wiring fitted, I guess it would be a pig to retro-fit? How can one tell a G3 unit, out of interest?

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
ebay is your best source....you'll need the satnav reader (between 200-300 quid), the loom to hook it up to the ICS (70-100 quid) and a GPS ariel (15-20 quid). The phone is probably more complicated as you'll need a new ICS with the GSM module (300 quid+ probably) plus lots of fiddling with wiring etc to get it to work....

And not worth the bother, Keith, as you'll constantly have to remove and replace the SIM card from your phone. Much better to have a bluetooth setup.

Re: Post fit Sat Nav
Better off with a decent phone and bluetooth sat unit and headset - I run TomTom on my Nokia and prop it up in the top cubby hole if I want to see it, or in the armrest if I don't care.
Look at http://www.nav4all.com/ for a freebie phone sat nav too.

The part number of the G3 unit is 606 716 64, this number is on the back of each deck. The G2 has a different part number. Internals are way different also, no interchange on the inside parts.

Ahh, is it the electronics that are different, or the whole drive?
