Alfa 156 New Head Unit with BOSE

Hi folks,

I've just bought an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Lusso '03 Plate. I have a kenwood psw-p524 MASK unit and I wanted to put it in the Alfa.

The 156 came with a Blaupunkt CD Player and teh full BOSE speaker amp and sub setup.

The CD Player came out easily enough and the Black ISO connectors were there and easy to attach to the Kenwood unit, however when I did this the system powered up ok but I was unable to get any sound. I eventually figured out that all you have to do is bridge the sigle grey wire coming from the multi coloured "lego" like box to the white wire in the ISO.

The sound from the BOSE system was ok with the normal factory CD Player, but with the Kenwood there was an incredible difference.

Hope this helps somone,

Stuart.

Hi stuart

I have a 04 GT and trying to change HU. i presume you mean grey wire=booster(as listed on Blaupunkt) and white wire on ISO is front left spkr +ive.

Re: Alfa 156 New Head Unit with BOSE

there's quite a few considerations to attend to when fitting an aftermarket headunit with Bose:

1. powerwiring: wire #7 in the alfa powerwire ISO plug is the 'constant' +12V main powerwire, so ensure this goes to the YELLOW powerwire on the new headunit; if your car has an IGN/ACC wire, it will be in position #4 and should connect to the RED wire on the new headunit; if there's no wire #4, you will need to tap into an alternative 'switched' powerwire like the cigarette powerwire
2. audio: low-level audio connection; alfa provides a speakerwire ISO plug and this needs to connect to the RCA preouts on the new headunit; you will need an adapator to convert the RCA outputs to ISO
3. remote trigger wire to Bose amp: the 'remote output' wire on the new headunit (usually BLUE wire, but don't confuse with the ANTenna output wire) must connect to the wire in the alfa YELLOW mini-ISO plug; this triggers the Bose amp on/off when you turn the headunit on/off

maybe you haven't attended to point 3.
