Help Double Din Stereo, Thourghts Guys?

Double DIN Stereo

Hi,

I found this on Ebay and I know that it's not going to be the same quality as a main stream brand stereo but any idea on how 'bad' it really will be?

Anyone bought this before/had experience with this or one like it?

Thanks in advance,

Oli.

Haven't seen or bought or fitted one.

However, it simply falls into the category of 'cheap mass market headunit built to a price'; there's many such headunits on the market and much feedback about low quality. I'm not saying it will be terrible or bad value, however, it is built cheaply. Relatively speaking, it will not be as good as a namebrand product in terms of picture quality, sound quality, build quality, reliability, and after market service/repairs.

Headunits costing 6 times as much will not be 6 times better. Things like this follow the law of diminishing returns. So you have to decide what your expectations are, and at least be prepared for something of low quality that might break or meet expectations.

2.2 Brera

I had a look at a few of those no-brand Chinese made double din units before buying a Pioneer.
The thing is, it's not just about the hardware and it's features, you need to consider the software as well. After reading a few of the reviews, some of them had really buggy software with unattractive menuing systems. Most of the sat navs on these units seem to want your full attention i.e. if you are currently using the sat nav, you can't play a cd or the radio for example. It's just a case of spending a bit of time and doing your research. And then buy a Pioneer

Alfa Romeo 159

Oliver,

I purchased this unit and had it shipped to the UK from California.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007523985...84.m1439.l2649

It's currently in UK customs but hopefully should arrive soon. Much cheaper than the UK, FM radio bands are within UK range too. Only con - no satnav, however can pull iPhone satnav through onto touch screen.
Could be worth consideration for you...

Don`t know how it is with sony, but the us versions of f.i. Pioneer use a different frequency grid for the fm tuning, which means you cannot tune to a lot of european radio stations...Also with f.i. dvd you'l have problems with the region code. With nav units, obviously you can run into problems with available maps etc....

In the us, fm stations are only on odd frequencies, i.e. 98.1, 98.3, 98.5 etc. In europe it's 98.1, 98.2,98.3 etc., so with a lot of us radio's you cannot tune to the even frequencies
