Blue and me/ipod (mac) not seeing each other

I've just picked up my 159 sw, bought the fiat blue and me adaptor and am trying to connect my ipod but no matter what I do I cant get the b and m system to see the ipod

I've also go a Spider with b and m, but that has nav head unit not the cd player the 159 has so took the adaptor and ipod from that which I know works and plugged into the 159 but no joy, the system wont recognise that the ipod is there whic rules out a duff bleu and me adaptor.

When connected the ipod display doesn't change to show its got a USB connection. if I remove adaptor and plug ipod in direct to usb socket in glove box the ipod does swap to show its got a connection but the B and M still doesn't see the ipod

If i use a USB pen formatted for FAT and with tracks dumped on it does play.

All the ipods are mac formatted and I've tried 2 ipods plus my 3GS and 4S phones, no joy on any of them. Rest of B and M is working perfectly, voice commands and phones paired without a problem.

Not sure where to go from here, I tried to check firmware was 5.5 and DL'ed the update, stuck it on a USB stick and tried an update but it just errors out with "USB date error" when i put key in. Afa B and M website is a waste of space with no real tech info. tried leaving ipod plugged in to let tracks update but it still doesn't show.

Anyone got any idea of what i can try next?

Just tried removing all the music off my iphone 4 and re-added one album, removed adaptor and it recognises phone and music so it might be caused by amount of music on ipod taking time to load into b and m, I need to plug the 120 gig classic in for a while and see if it loads up but it looks like no adapotr is needed, doh wasted £60 grr

I think you must have the adaptor for DRMed content on the iPod...
