The cheapest way to play an iPod in a pre-facelift 147?

I've recently bought my first car, a 51 reg 147. The car and a few repairs I've had to make on it have pretty much cleaned me out in terms of cash and I was wondering if anyone knew the cheapest way to play an iPod through the cars speakers?
I've done a bit of research and the fm transmitter doesn't sound like it's for me - (I'm a bit of an audiophile) I can't see anything in terms of an aux in on the HU, unless I'm just being thick :P. I've got a feeling the number one suggestion would be to replace the HU but I'd prefer to keep the steering wheel controls and the cost of a new HU considering if I was going to make that investment I'd buy a higher end one means that I would have no cash left for an interface... the joys of still being at school with a part-time job for cash Anyway other than biting the bullet and installing a new HU, interface etc in stages until I get more money does anyone have any cheaper options?

have a look at the iconnect fm good sound quality uses the propper ipod plug not headphone jack and charges your ipod aswell. Stay well away from anything listed as fm modulator because they are pretty pants. Or save your pennies and get the connects 2 ipod interface for your car that makes your head unit think your ipod is a cd changer, shop around shouldnt be to expensive.

Quickest/cheapest would be to change the HU.
It's a 10 year old design.

On a prefacelift (as opposed to newer 147s with later firmware in the headunit), you should be able to add an auxiliary via the CD changer terminal. Off-the-shelf Blaupunkt aux adaptors don't work without minor modification to trick the headunit into thinking a CD changer is connected. There is info within these forums about it (I'd have to do the same search to find it, so will leave it to you).

There are occasionally ebay sellers who sell modified ones to suit the car, but I've not kept an eye out for them.

If you can't find the relevant info, shout out. From memory, these adaptors still only connect via the headphone output, and manually control the iPod. Not as good as a docking port adaptor (for sound quality), but you'll need to pay more for one of these; these usually allow control over the iPod via the headunit buttons too.
