Crazed B & M phone / media player volume confusion

Anyone out there who can clarify this interesting discussion over in the 159 / Brera / Spider lounge

Someone has a new Spider LE and has asked about the phone volume being dead quiet.

He got a reply saying set the external volume on the HU to 20-25.

I said not to do that as it'd blow the speakers / eardrums when using the media player.

Two responses came back saying that wasn't the case

If I did that on mine (and have but not to level 25), the phone level is fine but it sound like a Ibiza Nightclub when I use the media player

Must be different system to mine then, perhaps an upgrade

On GTLeigh's Brera, the screen between the tacho / speedo shows Blue & Me on startup.

Any ideas??????

Cheers,

Simon & Clare

Re: B & M phone / media player volume confusion

I think my external volume is set at around 14 and it doesn't affect playback volume on the media player.

Re: B & M phone / media player volume confusion

On my system which isn't working at the moment I use the volume on the HU to have the volume for the phone at whatever level I want. It doesn't seem to interfere with the media player.

Re: B & M phone / media player volume confusion

SR, are you sure it's the media player volume that is excruciatingly
loud, or just the sound that is played when you are adjusting the
phone volume?

As there is no phone audio when you adjust the level, it uses the
CD/Radio(or Media Player?) as a sound source which is a higher
input level than the phone audio. So although you set it to an ear
splitting level when adjusting it, it is not when you actually use it.

If you see what I mean.

I know what you mean - if you adjust the external volume while playing music on the HU your ear drums take a pounding but once you have done so and you come out of 'menu' settings on the HU the media player reverts to the voulme you had it at before you adjusted the external volume.....................does that make sense

I did this yesterday, while using the phone I turned the volume way up but when I hung up the media player reverted back to a low level, around 3 or 4.

That's exactly how it works.

Nev, i thought the same as SR, but having tried it your right - external volume to 14, if the tuner is on then it does sound very loud, but once you exit the external volume menu it reverts to the original volume, now the media player/tuner is at the volume set 7/8 and the phone commands and receiving volume is 14 perfect ! and when you switch between phone & tuner/media player it reverts to the previous setting.

I don't get why they bother using a massively over loud source
to set the ext volume. It's pointless.

There is a download posted somewhere you
just stick it on a usb key and plug/unplug/plug the ignition key
to put B&M into install mode or something.

Thread Hijacking? That's what AO is all about!

it only works with certain phones however. Mine will pair with Blue and Me for phone calls but will not work with the SMS reader. And mine is a Windows based phone too HTC Touch Dual.

The funny thing is, those Win phones
and Blue 'n' Me are both running
a version of Windows CE.
