Cancelled RR Evoque order
As some of you know I have had a deposit down on a Range Rover Evoque since September last year and was anticipating delivery March/April.
After much consideration I've decided to cancel the order and now have my deposit back in my pocket and burning a hole to be spent.
So why did I cancel ?
A few reasons:
1 - We're lucky enough to have one very capable and luxurious all weather car already in the shape of Mrs RSKs Disco 4 which is truly the best family car in the world IMO.
2 - It was very expensive for what it is.
3 - You can get some incredible deals on some very very nice new cars out there at the moment.
Current examples I'm toying with are as follows:
Almost half the monthly cost of the RRE gets a Nissan 370z Convertible or a decent spec SLK250
For the same money per month a BMW M3, Audi RS5, Merc SLK 55 AMG or my current favourite a C63 AMG.
I took a C63 out for a test drive last week and it was absolutely incredible - the noise = plus it's rocketship fast, very well built, loaded with toys and handles beautifully. Have also tried an RS5 which whilst the Quattro is a bonus just didn't have the same mentalist factor as the Merc and was altogether more sensible.
Not sure which way I'll jump and may still end up with something much more sensible like a Golf R, Gti or similar but boy oh boy are A, M and G three very tempting letters.........

I'm happy for you. Nice as it is, I can see the Evoque becoming dated quite quickly and developing a bit of a fake tan and acrylic nails image.
Other than that, wow - what a great dilemma to be in. My choice would be the 370z (but not a convertible) and have spare cash in you back pocket as an added bonus.

Thanks my friend - and yes I suspect you're very right about the perceived image !

having never driven the BMW M3, Audi RS5, Merc SLK 55 AMG or a C63 AMG, I'd have to go on looks and raw appeal alone at this stage, and that would mean the M3's the car I'd start my series of test drives in Plus, if it's the current M3, you can choose between the two door or the rarer four door. I think BMW recently dropped the four door, though.
As for the noise of the AMG...could you live with it, mile after mile, or is it fairly hushed when cruising? So, fun when you want it to be, but serene when you want some peace?
Nice problem to chew over, though
Even in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

rewe's right on the evoque image - it's all a bit 'the only way is essex' if y'ask me. i've always said it looks overstyled, like some kind of fancy kia/hyundai concept. now that the baby RR is becoming a (relatively) common sight, i'd have to say that the c63 and the m3 have mahooooosively more visual clout, and almost certainly a whole lot more substance behind the visuals
i like the m3, but i think i'd warm to the c63 a lot more as it's probably more fun, more of the time. and that... sound....
the 370z does sound tempting at half the price though
- Keepin' it moist -

I like the 370Z but don't know much about the convertible version.
I was IMing a relative earlier, seems they're off to Brooklands soon for an AMG experience, they were hoping for a go in a C63 and not an SL.

Evoque is nice design but I dont feel the urge when I see one...
The Doblo rules over them both

Almost with you on the Doblo
The D4 is just brilliant, we've had a D3, and two D4s now. There are pics of the last one in my gallery and will get round to putting the new one up soon. Current one has the new 260 bhp engine, 600 or so torques, 8 speed ZF box and it's unbelievably comfortable, fast for what it is, well made and dripping with gadgets. I agree they have a real desirability factor about them. On top of all of that they will go just about anywhere, and yes our previous two have been up to their necks in mud on numerous occasions, this one hasnt yet but made an awesome vehicle to drive to, and then around, the Alps where other cars couldn't get to on a recent ski trip. Mrs RSK tells me she'll never have anything else

ugh, was it clarkson that introduced talking about 1 torque, 2 torques etc. ? My car has 1490 weights then. And 72 fuel capacities.

Does it have to be brand new, or could you go for 1 or 2 years old, or ex-demo etc?

I'll level with you mate I'm no Clarkson fan but equally I'm no scientist nor engineer so you'll just have to deal with it !

I'm driving a 5.7l V8 Toyota Sequoia this week, I think its like 380hp and quite nippy considering its the size of a house
Maddest car I've driven recently was the Lexus ISF, 400+ hp and an 8 speed gearbox........bloody quick and a fantastic sound
Dont think either of those would be ideal for the UK though
