Ford 'QuickClear' windscreens

anyone experienced them on ford/jag/LR cars? mrs al's focus has one, on a frosty morning like this it's god's own invention

One of the best things since sliced bread. Had one on a mondeo then a focus and the 1st Freelander that the wife totalled. New one doesn't have it but, I have a sneaky plan when the windscreen is due a change.

Very thin heating elements embedded in the screen. My Mondeo had one - but it failed like everything else on the car

My dad had a Ford Puma with one fitted.

Absolutely brilliant invention, almost makes buying a Ford worthwhile just for the screen.

Ah I see. Like a rear screen then only integral. Bet that costs a fair bit if it breaks

No it really doesn't I just sit in my alfa for a couple of minutes and hey presto I get the same result. Think it's called forward planning And it gives the engine chance to get a bit of warmth in it before I drive off so helping with long life. Double whammy as I see it

Seriously Joss the current Ford windscreens are really good. Loads of frost on the Kuga on friday, within seconds it was clear without me having to find a scraper or de-icer.

I'm sure you're right that after 5 years it might well give up! As it's in the laminate, can it be replaced on it's own or deoas the whole screen have to be replaced?

I'm only winding them up mate. I'd buy a ford as I know they are quite good. Probably try and get a focus RS or something like that as the chassis is very good and as for 5 year product life. They out last that fine and usually do many more years besides. But that is the target non the less. BMW and mercedes used to be 15 years

Pehaps I should have used the term at least before the timing It's all to do with market change. They want you to buy a new one

Our Mundano had one and it is truly a brilliant invention. There are plenty out there that still work but I don't think windscreen fitters like them much.

In my ford focus company car it worked but only on one side, Can you guess which side as it certainly wasn't the drivers side

But even without using the element, I found the blower would clear the screen in seconds

My mate found a website that sold them for racing and they were listed for my GTV, got to find that link

My focus had it. As everyone else who's ever had the pleasure on a frosty morn will know they are superb

Hell my dads 1987 Granda 2.9i Ghia had it. and I think it's been going longer then that!

I've been using a MK1 Focus with one fitted but not had much of a chance to use it. For some reason my focus zoomed in on the elements a few months ago.

They were fantastically well equipped cars for the time. I think they might have been the first to have them though. I had a '91 Sierra that had one that didn't work (and it's the Only Sierra I've seen with one and I've seen a few) but they became commonplace in the MIV Escort and MK1 Mondeo I think.

They are superb! Had one on my '93 Orion Ghia Si. Lasted for 8 years & was doing so when I traded it. The washer jets were also heated.

My Brera has the has the winter pack so heated wiper area & washer jets. It's lame compared to the Ford system though.

We covered the GT screen last night - took it off & was good. Then I drove 100 yards in -5.5 degrees & it froze solid Old Alfa heaters are ****e

My old '99 Mondeo 1.8 TD is still going strong with 170k on it, it is my brother's daily drive now. And the heated front screen was fantastic.

I've got one fitted to my 1990 Land Rover 90! Don't imagine it was standard fit though. Brilliant, as heaters are terrible.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Ford only had a 25 year patent on it. To my knowledge the '85 MY Granada was the the first to get it. Maybe Ford have an extension or it wasn't true.

I had one of these on my Focus and it really is properly handy, sitting scraping ice off the inside of my GTV windscreen this morning I had a wee pang of nostalgia for my Ford years

Yes, I had a Mondeo with one of these and they are great - till they stop working.
Just off to scrape my windscreen now
