Kumho Tyres.....Anybody know what they are like.......

I've been given an excellent price for a pair of Kumho tyres ( 215 / 45 / R17 -91 W ) for the front wheels on my 147 JTDm (1:9 16 valve ) Ti, but I know nothing about this brand. Anybody got any experience with them at all.The cost is £160 BTW.....

Cheers Folks......

Thanks Pud......

Yes, I think that was what they quoted, but I didn't write it down, all I gave them was my Tyre size, and they recommended Kumho Tyres to me, and I was quite impressed with their opinion of them, so am looking on here to see what other Alfa owners think of them, before I put them on.......

I used to use them on my old 156 2.4 JTD in 205/55/16 and I was happy with them for the price.

By the way, Camskill have those tyres at £61 each inc VAT.

Cheers Pud.......

I'm using a local dealer, who has an excellent reputation all round, and I've had no problems with them in over 20 Years, so I do trust them, and £80 each ( including VAT and fitting ) seems like a very good price, I've just never heard of this Kumho brand at all, hence my thread on here tonight. Seems a positive response so far, methinks.......

I find kumhos to be a reasonably priced mid range tyre. Had some on the 155 when I bough it. Pretty good in dry. Ok in the wet and predictable on the limit. All in all nothing special but not bad either.

They are actually the KU-39 XL 91 Y Sport tyres, which are now on the front wheel, as I've just had them fitted, and they look and feel great so far, so I think its money well spent, especially for just £160, all in.........

I thought they were fine in the wet, not at all unpredictable. You could push it & push it, there wasn't bags of grip but thats not so important, whats important is that they don't just break away without warning.

Perhaps thats a replacement for the old KU-31 then. It was a few years ago I last used them.

Yes, the guy told me they were the upgraded version of those, and are quite popular at the moment, and I know he knows what he is talking about, as he's been there Years, and fitted all of my previous tyres on this Car too........

I'm finding them great so far, done a fair bit of driving in the rain lately ( HEAVY Rain too ) and they performed as well as any other Tyres I've had on this Car, so I'm VERY happy with them at the moment, especially for the price I paid for them too.......

guys - the website called mytyres (i think) is pretty good for helping you choose a tyre.

I always choose an excellent rain tyre over an excellent dry tyre. You can search by car, taking their advice on what's best for your car, according to your preference. As i said, mine is always extreme rain performance over extreme dry performance. I have no ABS, and no traction control, so I need as much help as I can get from that tiny surface patch on the road

Had a set of the Ku31s on a previous car and they were just fine wet and dry, have just fitted 4 KL71's to my other halfs Freelander and they seem to be pretty good all round tyres for the price

I was putting Kuhmo tyres on my cars 20 years ago, they were a budget brand back then as I recall. I wouldn't hesitate to use Kuhmo on the Mito when the tyres get due for a change.

Well Folks.......

I've just been watching " live "Auto GP racing from Monza this Morning, and to my suprise ( and delight ) the Tyres that are being supplied for this season, are indeed Kumho Tyres..........

So, if they are good enough to put on Auto GP Cars for the season, they are certainly good enough for my Alfa 147, methinks !!!!.......

Looks like I made a good choice indeed, especially as I had never heard of them at the time of my original post here..........

Not necessarily the best tyre for the job, just the tyre manufacturer which offered the best deal!

How do you find your Kumho tyres for road noise?
