opinions on next car
Hi,
here's a nice quandry, what to get for my next car. Probably have to wait till next year but I've been thinking about what to replace my 156 2.0l TS with. My short list is:
Fiat Coupe Turbo
Subaru Imprezza
GTA (156 or 147, I'm not fussy! )
I've always loved the coupe but not sure how it would stand up to the rough, potholed roads I mainly drive on. With that in mind the head says Scooby.
What does everyone think? I'm sure lots of you have owned some of these, how do they compare when you actually drive them daily as opposed to a one off thrash?
Cheers
Andy

Re: opinions on next car
Either GTA, followed by the rather snappy looking Fiat Coupe. I personally wouldn't bother with the Impreza. You will feel like a chav no matter how hard you try to fight it
Not bothered about the GTV?

no, I like the GTV but have a wife and three children (so really should be thinking more of a volvo estate!)
What's the GTA like to live with? Maybe a GTA SW would be a good bet.

Re: opinions on next car
so apart from a slightly chavvy image what's wrong with a scooby? I live in the country so most of them are driven by farmers and tweed wearing gents not chav's. My thinking was that as a tough rally car they would handle the rough roads round my way well

For the family I would recommend the 156 GTA.. even better though would be the 156 GTA SW.

Not sure how the Fiat coupe gets into your short list on this basis.

Re: opinions on next car
Have to say the 156 GTA SW is the obvious choice...
Scooby...hmmm....having recently driven one for the first time, I have to say that the car, whilst fantastically fast and capable, has absolutely zero style and class.
FIAT coop...superb car, but if you have a family....forget it.

Re: opinions on next car
156 SW GTA makes the most sense (156 5 door, doesnt have split fold rear seats).
Though as a new owner...I also have to recommend the GTV 3.0 V6

Re: opinions on next car
I`d go for the GT 3.2 .Big enough for a family, big enough boot smoother suspension to the GTA`s IMO....for the pot whole roads, and is super stylish.

Yeah, although if the kids are small they will fit in a GTV too

Re: opinions on next car
Errm, if you were happy with a 156, then a 156 GTA is the way to go. It's the same as a 156 in terms of practicality except it handles better, goes faster and is waaay cooler. I went from a 2.0 TS 156 to the GTA, best move I made.
Cheers,
Nigel

Re: opinions on next car
156 GTA would be my pick of that bunch. If you're thinking about buying a Scooby, test drive an Evo first. They are the better of the two by far IMO.

Re: opinions on next car
Will the GTA SW be up to constant use on rough country road? We had to replace the wishbones on our old mondeo several times and my 156 needs new up wishbones at the moment. Just worried that the GTA will rattle itself apart and need constant bits replacing in the suspension.

GTA is not a lot different to the 156 from what I can see so far in terms of suspension wear and tear. Wishbones and bushes need replacing more frequently than on other makes. But you can improve that - better bushes for example. If you've been living happily with a 156, a GTA will be no worse, in fact a lot better in all other departments (except fuel usage but you get far more smiles to the gallon).
Cheers,
Nigel
