Re: Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione

Still haven't heard anything official about the spider but just heard that looks like 475 at the moment for Coupe quantities with production starting middle of next year.

No sorry I mean that current official response is 475 will be produced in total. Don't know how many pre-orders there are nor how many there are in the UK...I do know one pre-order however

I am not kidding - although I do have the option to withdraw as I did with the Brera (although I don't think the 8C is going to suffer the same weight and performance issues and its a proper sportscar with RWD)

Great...and you're going to let someone who uses the same forum as you and who has the initails KS and who drives on a road you used to use in your Lotus test track days drive it aren't you (pretty pretty please )

I am sure we could sort something out However early days yet - I wanted to get the option but it will depend on the final price (I am now hearing somewhere between £60k and £125k...if the former, should be able to scrape it, alas it will be a no way unless I win the lottery in the interim). Hopefully it won't be long before we know more

I think you're right. They were quoting £60k in 2003, and more recently it's been hovering between 140,000 - 160,000 euro. Over on pistonheads they quoted £67k, but I think that was a mistake - there was an article in Italian which said (roughly) that it would cost "well over 100,000 euro", but PH just picked out the number and converted it to pounds.

£100,000 would put it at more or less the same price point as the SZ when it was launched - more than an entry-level 911, less than an entry-level Ferrari.

I think that's right. The information I got last week was just over Euro 100,000 plus taxes etc - so I had been thinking about £90k. Just had a comment this morning saying still should be between £60k and £75k so we shall see.

Re: Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione

T'would be truly great if someone from AO (Virage perhaps?) were to aquire an 8C. I can see the future now:_

AO 8C open-day 2008. First come first served to view one of the rarest and most beautiful Alfas ever built.....

You'd have many drink bought for you that day, my friend

How many members do we have? If I charged £10 for a test-run I reckon if everyone turned up globally I might make a bit of a profit...maybe I could definitely afford it then if it turns out to be on the high price side

Don't mind me asking virage1, but how much did you have to put down for it?

PS: I am popping by my local dealer later today

Re: Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione

Didn't sakis say they've already taken over 3000 orders??

That wouldn't surprise me to be honest.

Pity a lot of people will be left disappointed...

Surely the more 8cs out on the road the better.

I'd be interested too - PM me if you'd rather, virage1.

My dealer is still saying they know nothing more than "the rumours in the press", and ARUK said (yesterday) that they weren't taking deposits, which I don't entirely believe.

Could believe the price to be 165,000 euros...would then be about or slightly less than a F430...technology is going to be similar...However I think this will be too expensive for many...far safer bet at this price to buy a Ferrari...

3,000 orders sounds nonsense. Given numbers have yet to be confirmed and the ordering process has yet to be finalised, Alfa will have no orders (except for a few special cases no doubt). Some dealers may have a queue already but that will not be put through to the factory until the order process is fixed. This is what most manufacturers do...nothing gets logged with the factory until production times are pretty much known.

As far as I know only 500 will be produced. In case you can afford one, but you won't one of the lucky 500 owners: after a year the 8c Spider will go into production

Interesting - do you know if that's limited production, or series production? For the 8C Spider, I mean.
