Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Auto Italiana in Exeter -presently moving premises, but website is Parts for Italian Cars - Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia.

Roy, Nick and Craig are very friendly, Roy is the specialist, and they won't charge you an arm and a leg.

I had airbag problems, and even my local auto electric specialist was scared to get into it. Roy has a proper airbag tester, & reckoned it was the ECU that needed changing. I sourced the part from a scrapper after Roy gave me the part number options that would fit my car, and they fitted it. With vat, diagnosis, labour, the final bill was about 46 quid.

I'll go there again .......but not too often hopefully ....

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Hi seen all the postings, live about 30 miles from Bristol so Duncan at Alfanet is a little away from me. In a town called Bradford on Avon postcode BA15 1AP. ( 12 miles from Chippenham ) Just bought my first Alfa last week 53 2.5 V6 Q-Sys. The suspension at the front sounds noisy and I am really worried about the cambelt after reading all the postings. It has done 38k miles but the belt has not been changed.

Anyone suggest someone closer than Bristol?

Thanks,

Ronnie

Alfa 156

Bianco near Gatwick

Just had some work done on my 156 by Bianco over near Gatwick.

Can't recommend them highly enough!! Really nice guys, checked over the car pre-MOT, and told me excatly what needed doing (not much), & what might be a good idea to do in due course (again not much).

My previous 'Alfa specialist' had told me all sorts of things needed to be done "urgently" at great expense to pass the MOT.

Having had previous poor experience from other Alfa dealers & specialists, it is a breath of fresh air to meet someone who is honest, reasonably priced and knows their stuff. I'll certainly be going back to them next time.

Confirmed. I've been relying on Roy to keep my Fiat Coupe Turbo and 3.0 GTV (916) on the road for several years. He is absolutely first class. He has recently moved to the west of Exeter so phone him for his new location before you go and see him.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Hi,

I also want to add my name to the people recommending Wyn Lear at Keighley. It's a pleasure to take your car to him and you feel as if you're really being looked after. He knows his Alfas inside and out and he cares about his work. You must book well in advance because he seems to be permanently busy (which is always a good sign).

Additionally, he will loan you a car to run around in. It tends to be an absolutely cream crackered one of his own, so I've driven his old GTV (the first loan car I brought home and washed!), a 146 with the boxer engine and a 146 1.8.

Took my old 156 there a few times, and my 147 JTD. The 159 will be going there once the warranty is finished.

Oh, and you know he's a proper Alfa man because he turned his nose up at my 147 because it was a diesel.

Top lad.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

I agree with Adder and thanks to him for pointing them out to me.

PowerItalia did diagnostics on my error codes for £25 (AR Main Dealer quotes £105). Plus they ensured that I understood what was definitely needed to be done and what could be put aside for another day. That sort of honesty is worth a lot! Intelligent, sensible, reasonable and helpful. Great find.

Also had a service and some minor work done by them and can whole-heartedly recommend them.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

only last week i had a service and MoT at Monarch Automotive in Peterborough, this is an established independant service centre, under new ownership, and is being refitted, will be amazing when finished by the look of things, they have a Hunter Wheel Alignments set up that is awsome, brand new Tyre Fitting Centre, trained Staff as well, that makes a change, they also signed me up for a Royalty Card for offers, and discounted rates loos good to me.
take a look for yourself Monarch Automotive Peterborough - Service garage of choice for MOT servicing, windscreens, exhaust, tyres and much more

i was well impressed, and that is not usual when visiting a garage!!

very knowlegable and approachable
you only ever speak to someone who has been doing the work for you and not some dumb receptionist who doesnt have a clue

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Another recommendation for PowerItalia from me:

Italian Performance Car Specialists Fiat 20VT & Alfa Romeo

based in Basildon, Essex.

Roger has worked on my Fiat Coupé 20vt for the past 4 years and has given me consistently excellent service, as well as being very approachable for honest advice (and responses to numpty questions ).

I recently bought an Alfa 155 that needed a few bits (most notably a full service, new clutch and new gearbox) which they sorted out very quickly, easily and at a good price. I will be back for belt changes

Roger has run a modified coupé, GTV 3.0 and recently sold his 156 GTA - he really knows his Italian cars and is rightly massively well-respected amongst the Fiat Coupé community.

Big then.

Gus is a fantastic, if slightly mad bloke who lives, breathes and races alfa's. just had my '96 GTV remapped by him and it's a different car!. I think he only does alfa's. Not the cheapest in the area, but the best I've encountered.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Had my wifes 147 1.6 Lusso serviced at Simplyalfas. They have done a good, professional job all round: the car feels as if it has been serviced, they have given fair, reasonable advice, kept me informed about what was going on and when the car was ready, been friendly and gone out of their way to help: the cruise control had stopped working, they got the brake sensor that had failed (genuine part), phoned me when it arrived and fitted it when I just dropped in without notice. I know that they are all Alfa trained technicians because they worked at my local Alfa dealer before it shut down and worked on my cars there.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Clare's GT got serviced by Autolusso today and as usual, they did a great job

Clare's done over 12k since March & since the Q2 got fitted but everything was in good order.

Also had all the aircon serviced (drained, leak tested & refilled) with their new machine and sanitised via a Forte air con "bomb".

Great treatment (we were fed & watered), great attention to detail bu Chris & very good VFM

Highly recommended

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Tanc Barratt in Kidderminster are pretty good (also do Lancia), Alfa Restorations in Wem are excellent and there's a guy in Sparkhill in the centre of Birmingham who works from a tiny place but does a great job. All listed in the AROC directory I think.

We should give these guys more of a plug - without them we'd be stuffed.

Higly recommend WAD Alfa Romeo in Wolverhampton, took my car in at 8am saturday 13th of sep. for a cambelt change, variator change, new thermostat, and front brake pads, and it was all complete by lunch time, they did a great job and I highly recommend them. I will be using them again.
