Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Merseyside / Wirral / Cheshire.

After using 3 Alfa Independants in this area, 1 stands out most of all.

Albert Ford Alfa Tech Services, based in Moreton in the wirral. His phone number is 0151 6780378, He was the former Chief Mechanic for Duttons Fiat / Alfa Indie in Wallasey. Now started a new business on his own he offers all the services. He has all the special tools.

His knowledge is unparalelled with all Alfa's and Fiat's and his attention to detail is second to none.

Normally he asks the customer to purchase the non consumable spares themselves, from the ususal outlets of EB Spares / Shop4parts, hence you only pay for labour time. He even collects you car and delivers it back to you when its finished with a detailed report of what was done and what additional was found.

Some forum members here have already used him and many have returned. So if you want magic service, Excellent labour rates, and superb relationship about your Bella, then Albert Ford is your man

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Try Nigel at Angel Tuning. They are fantastic. Just did my Cambelt, waterpump, Variator and full service for under £500. (2.0TS 156)

They mainly work on Alfa and is highly recomended. I did a 320mls round trip to use them and would do so next time too..

Don't be frighened by them being a "tuning" compnay, they are Alfa SPecialists and excetionally helpful.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

I dropped my 156 off to Rusper Alfa Romeo this morning to cure my creaking suspension (was brutally bad this weekend in the cold). That place is an Aladdin's cave of Alfa gear - in the garage were a 156 Sportwagon, a 155 Q4, a boat-tailed Spider, a mid 1970's Spider, a Giulia Coupe (LHD) & a Spider (RHD). Awesome place.

I got a 155 2.0 16v as a courtesy car. Nowhere near as fast as my car, but the handling is excellent - still smiling now. This is the 2nd 155 I've had as a courtesy car, and they've both really impressed me. Hmmm... might be a possible candidate for my next project

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Just had the defects list back from Rusper... his opening statement was "are you sitting down?". A lot of worn suspension components (front & rear) despite me being told 4 months ago that they were all in tip-top condition. £550 due now, another £350 in about 6 months time, and every possibility of needing a CV joint anytime between now & then too

This reinforces my point not to use SDR Autos to buy a car or repair it - they are shoddy when it comes to prepping a car for sale (i.e. they're blatantly not interested).

Rusper are the first people in a long time I actually trust to work on my car.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

The wife has had a 147 2.0 t-spark for a few months now, and after much searching i found an independent who replaced the cam belt (and other associated parts) for £300. He was by far the cheapest and did a great job. He was back again today to do a service, which again was very reasonably priced.

More details can be found at A For Alfa

We're in the Berkshire area, and he came out to do the work. I'd recommend him highly.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Try Power Fiat
Unit 14
Newlands End
Laindon North Industrial Estate
Basildon
Essex
07946616672

They specialize in Fiat Coupes and Alfa. I have hear much good of them, but not used them myself.
I spoke to them with regards to some work, but my warranty company demanded using a specific company on their books.

Recommended to me by two customers, recommended by me because they're knowledgeable, helpful, low priced and all the other good stuff you seem to get from real Alfa enthusiasts.
I second that, been using them for years for the Spider and the wifes 147. Always a great service and they really know their Alfa's ( they race them as well!)

Have used Nick a couple of times now for work on my gtv and found him to be very good on price and excellent service every time, plus a really decent bloke who knows his stuff - what more could you want?
