Re: Indie Recommendations

Another endorsement for JP at the Alfaworkshop.

The site is very helpful and Jamie has responded to a number of my 'I think I have a a problem with...' emails with suggestions/answers even when there has been no prospect of work in it for him.

Top fella!

Re: Indie Recommendations

I can strongly recommend Adrian at Alfaid in Maidenhead. He is not the cheapest but I doubt if anyone knows the ins and outs of Alfas more than him. He has taken excellent care of our three Alfas. Even my wife approves of him, and she comes from Yorkshire.

Re: Indie Recommendations

I'll second BLS in Lincoln, and for remaps and other electronic jiggery pokery (he put my missing miles back after the 'speedo head change' recall) I was impressed by the guy at
DigiProg
33 Wharfside Ind Estate
Fenny Stratford
Milton Keynes
MK2 2AZ,
01908 646325/01908 646391.

He was very careful getting the speedo out of the car and back in, and really 'thorough' while working. The sort of approach you like to see when someone's messing with your motor.
He told me he previously worked in F1 on the engine electronics as I sat in his pristine hi tech workshop while he did the work. He also said that most of his work is remapping.

Re: Indie Recommendations

I can fully recommend:-

Palmer & Phillips
Peterley Rd,
Cowley,
Oxford,
OX4 2TZ
Tel - 01865 749600

They were fantastic with my old 145 Cloverleaf and it's various electrical issues, especially the airbag warning light

My 156 has only been in for annual services but am still on first name terms - must be the visits in between services for oil

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

For those of us in the Bristol area, I can deffo recommend Duncan at:

Alfa Net
95-97 Fishponds Road
Bristol
BS5 6PN

Tel: 0117 952 0444
Mob: 07977 074325

He's just repaired my son's 147 1.6 TS after a cambelt breakage and did a 60k service on my 147 2.0 TS (and got it MOT'd). Still got change out of a grand for all that.

Another recommendation for Wyn Lear in Keighley. Sound bloke, knows his stuff - he should do, he's been there 30-odd years - and a real gent.

Based in the centre of Keighley, so easy to get the train from Leeds (25mins).

Used this guy for service (36K £140) and timing belt (for 2.0JTS £280). Very impressed, good value for money and seems honest. has full Bosch diagnostics too which is useful. Will use again.

Re: Independent garage Recommendations

Is there a way we can organise this thread into areas? Maybe in the meets section? Maybe change the title from meets to "Local - Area" - then people can find indies near to where they live.

Just a suggestion.

I'll second that recommendation. Only person I've used for my Bella's various troubles and woes.

Just remember that I'm usually second in the queue after Gary's MG! (even though I generally ignore the queue and just turn up with an hour's notice ).

Not really sure why Howard doesn't advertise in the AROC listings!

Good suggestion. Same problem with the indie listings in the AROC annual directory. Everything is listed by town so you have to search through the lot to find someone local. Nees to be on a map ideally.

He did used to, but it costs money and with my MG constantly in htere I don't think he really needs too many new customers

Yeah, good idea. Why don't we just have a similar thread in each of the area lounges? It just needs some poor sod, *ahem* mod to go through and work out which posts belong to which area!

I agree about making this regional. As I got alfa owner to make this sticky I'll PM him to see if they can sort this out.
