My local detailing expert recommended Einszett Waxpolish Soft as a glaze which covers swirls and imperfections to some degree. I used this and topped it off with Collinite wax and was pretty impressed with the finish. It's not perect but definitely a lot better than it was. You might want to try the Einszett Waxpolish (if you haven't already....).

Last year I never seemed to have the time to get rid of the swirls and scratches and had to be content with the fillers in the products I used. This year I am determined to actually get rid of the swirls rather than rely on covering them up using waxes / glazes - hence my problems with the apparent toughness of the paint and stubbornness of the swirls.

Re: Micro Fibre Cloth.

Agree, it needs to be done at some stage. I'm surprised you're having trouble with the proper equipment (the PC I mean) because Alfa paintwork generally sucks - it chips if a 6 year old girl sneezes near it (may be exaggerating for effect here....). Good to hear you have tough paintwork. My GTA does seem less swirled than my old 156 2.0 but it still covered in chips.

Cheers,

Nigel

The silver paint is the hardest stuff I have tried to polish including VAG cars, I think the only way to polish my car is to save up a buy a rotary bit I might try a stronger polish such as Menzerna IP first.

The paint on my old 164 was ultra soft, anything stronger than Meguairs #80 was like using sandpaper but the 156 just laughs at all my attempts to remove swirls
