The Sheet Metal

So behind times now, but is the sheet metal that our pride and joys are clad in, still CRCA mild steel? I'm aware they now galvanise quite a fair proportion of it, but wondered if the basic method of production was still the same? This is not a trick question, genuinely interested, if anyone knows. I suppose the answer is out there on the net, were I diligent enough to search. Thought it might be an interesting topic? Perhaps not!!!

Not sure what grade the the steel is but is still only mild steel. As for Galvanise the panels are only covered in places :wheelarches ,front of bonnet ,door edges, then the whole body and panels are sunk and turned in a solution called E-coat.Not sure what the E stands for but i bet i couldent spell it!!

Re: The Sheet Metal

E coat means electro coat, it is a form of electrostatic painting to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Re: The Sheet Metal

Thanks for joining in chaps. I am quite interested because I have heard that the gauging has been somewhat reduced, whether true, or false I know not. So there are some odd bits and bobs I am interested in, that I would like to have explained. Appreciate major attention is paid to anti-corrosion, various treatments, not so much oxidisation taking place nowadays.
