Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
I used to get waved at all the time when I got my 156 - 7 years ago next week! (sob!)
It hadn't happened for ages until another 156 driver waved at me near Loughborough the other week - I was so surprised I didn't wave back - sorry mate if you're reading this.
Before that I last got waved at when I was driving a borrowed MGTF -by another MGTF - he must have thought I was another hairdresser.

Welcome to AO, GHT
It might be a nice idea to introduce yourself to everyone in the "Introduce Yourself" lounge (but be prepared for a barrage of requests for pics of your car! )

Thank you for your kind comment on my french. I only get to use it when I go skiing but hope to move to La Belle France by 2015 (sooner if possible).
I live in Poole, Dorset on the south coast of the UK. I'm about 100 miles south-west of London. As you may know, there is a direct ferry service from Poole to Caen
I'm sorry to hear that so few french enjoy the Alfa passion. Keep waving the flag for the Alfista and who knows, perhaps you'll get the wave from me next time I pass through Caen

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
To the gorgeous blonde in the very pretty silver spider twinspark with the fantastic registration mark (B10ND X) who was leapfrogging my duetto all the way from the A61 Tesco's roundabout in Chesterfield to the M1 J23 today - I have a message for you:
My spider has fallen madly in love with yours. He suggests that you and I go for a drink together whilst he and your spider get together for a session of wild and passionate lovemaking.
Alternatively, we can reverse the suggestion and send the cars off for a drink.

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
Hello All,
It's been a long time since I've been around here, but with the company kiboshing access from work it has taken the arrival of Broadband and access at home to finally get back in here properly. I've now moved to Desborough near Kettering and near Northampton, so if anyone is around here drop me a line.
Great to see the "Alfa Wave" getting an airing. When I ventured to the UK in my first 156 ('99......6 years ago ) I got the Alfa wave from everybody, and so it was for a couple of years. I noticed a drop off in this tradition over the years as 156's and 147's became non-Alfisti random transport, and as this was a quicker process in Dublin so the Alfa Wave died a quicker death in Ireland. Last year when I moved to Newcastle on Tyne with my 155 V6 the Wave seemed to have returned, but only from older Alfas with a few notable modern exceptions.
Purchase of the 20v Sportwagon last August seemed to cast me back into the modern Alfa wilderness, as I was resolutely ignored by the same 155's and 75's that had almost put themselves into the ditches to wave at me the week before. I still try to at least catch the eye of every Alfa driver I see, but I fear the men in the white coats are gathering..........
Could we start a "Save the Wave" campaign??
Good to be back

MHFTI!

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
I find the same down here in Kerry - even though I do notice other Alfa drivers staring at my GT no one waves but kids shout nice car sometimes as I pass
I find classic car drivers will almost always wave if I am in one of my old cars - also I used to get loads of waves from other motorcyclists when I had my Suzuki Bandit but noticed that they never even looked at moped drivers.

That could be just it BB - ahh a policeman's lot is not a happy one (well it is actually sometimes)
I think its just that
(a) Alfa's mean the same to them as any Ford would.
(b) They are very reserved or shy about waving - they might be afraid
of looking foolish.
(c) They could just be in a bad mood or may not have noticed your Alfa

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
One of the first things the previous owner of my Spider said was that I should wave at any other Spiders, especially 'classics'. But I've found that I get looks, nods, waves, thumbs up from drivers of all sorts of cars. And my gf and I were hounded by a mob of school kids on a coach in a traffic jam - aka the M25 - who had their faces squashed up against the glass! I'm just glad it was only their faces
So my New Year's resolution (eight months late) is to wave at all Alfa owners, not just Spider drivers. There's obviously a large community of passionate folk out there (and that's not a reference to Gausie's earlier comments about spotting lovely ladies at roundabouts )

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
Got a double flashed lights and wave from a red 156 yesterday in Sheffield less than a minute after a 155 gave me a wave. Earlier got a mouthed "Wow thats nice" from a hot looking lady in a black 1980's 911.
Everybody loves a Bertie

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!
The "Alfa Wave" can be anything, from one Alfa owner to another. Doesn't matter how new or old the Alfa is.
Just finished up giving the new'un a proper polishing and driving though Fleet guy in a great looking 145 CL gave the "wave".. duly returned.
Any members in the Fleet area see an immaculate Proteo Red 155V6 waving,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wave back !!!!!
We all do it for fun!
Oh, and if there is a member here who's 155 2.0 TS is at Bowenhrst Golf Centre on Sunday afternoons. Make youself known! That's a great motor youhave there !!!!!
