Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Got a wave from a 159 between Settle and Long preston about half six tonight - maybe I should start waving!

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Here in South Africa you are very fortunate to find an Alfa to wave to.

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

I had an angry blast from the hooter of a silver 159 Saturday afternoon somewhere between Epsom and Ashtead as it had to pull out to pass me.

Thanks... and yes I was:
stationary
on a dead straight road
200m after some temporary lights
using hazards
lost
unable to get Nav+ to work out where I was

The BMW that had to do the same thing wasn't so pig ignorant.

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

I drive my wife and kids mad with the waving and an added chant of "Alfa" when ever I pass another Alfa on the road, or car park or drive way, actually anywhere.
Now I know it's an official act I shall wave with enthusiasm (excuse spelling) so next time you see a man, woman and 2 kids waving like loons from a 156 it will be me and family.

If yours was silver and the waver was in a silver car, it was me!

(But it was a Brera not a 159.)

Wasn't me was it? I always watch out for waving Alfas.

I have seen another red GTV around South Croydon, and he's not waved to me either. In fact, last time I saw him he deliberately looked the other way as I was waving with my arm out the window.

Alfa 155 2.0 TS

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Well I had another go today ...

To the Lady in the Red 156 on Sidcup Hill turning into Belmont Rd.
Stop being such a stuck-up ***** and wave ...
(She deliberately blanked me)

To the driver of the Blue GT along SMC high St, I was flashing at you, but nothing back, you couldn't have missed me, I was right behind you!

Saw a nice blue 155 with speedlines in the car park near Halfrauds on Sevenoaks way today ... didn't bother waving, as it was parked and empty.

Nah Jim wasn't you. Definitely not a Cup. Seems we've probably both been ignored by the same guy!!

I tried waving and flashing my hazards at an Alfa driving behind me on the M3 last night. Think they just thought I was having problems with my car ... instead of flashing back they just kept quite some distance behind me!!

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Got a response from a silver 156 as I was heading out of Ipswich towards Felixstowe bound A14 at about 07.35 this morning.

Well done that man.

As a fully fledged member of the plebian 156 owning fraternity and a lifelong Alfa owner (suds, guilietta, 33....you name it) I do object to your generalisations.

Been on a 3 week tour of the British isles in my sportwagon (old, scruffy and not in any sense flash) and I make these observations:

wavers: several - in the main they are male, over 35 and driving either very sporty models or pre-2000 ones.

non-wavers - all women (notably blondes) all 147 drivers and anyone who looks like their car was provided by the company. And everyone under 35.

So I now select carefully before raising my hand........!

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Exchanged flashes with a gtv cup on Upney lane, Barking last night about 8.30PM.

Lovely looking car mate! Nice to see a rare alfa around my way.

I got a wave from a blonde girl in a GTV in Lymington the other week. Do we have a points scoring system for waves? If so, how much is that worth?!

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

I think the lesson is not to generalise about anyone! I'm female, drive a post-2000 car, under 35, and I always wave (not blonde, though )

I have a poor hit rate, though , people just don't seem to do it. Unless I count my neighbour (gorgeous 155), whom we've got to know since he ditched his yank-tank, and I stopped one day to say 'nice Alfa'. Turns out he's a nice bloke, and his daughter goes to the same school as my son

Re: i got the Alfa wave!!

Well I've been an Alfa owner for a week and a half now, and Alfas are pretty rare here in Canberra. Waved at a red 159 near the airport last week - don't think he saw me. Tried to flash lights at a black GT in Queanbeyan on Sunday afternoon but due to unfamiliarity with the car I gave him the "Alfa-windscreen-wipe" instead. Oddly, he did not respond.

This morning I waved at a black Brera near the airport - no response.

On the plus side, Alfas are rare enough here that I get LOTS of admiring looks. On Sunday we were behind a hot-rod and the driver spent so much time looking at us in his mirror that I thought he might have an accident. Yesterday morning a construction worker by the side of the road turned slowly through 180 degrees to watch me go past. Slightly embarrassing but enjoyable too.
