The classic Alfa

When i was growing up my Dad had a Chrysler avenger deluxe which he garnished with some nice trim a stainless exhaust and some other additions that i can't remember but basically it was the late 80's and he loved that car. Eventually and unfortunately it had to go though he did hold out till you could stick your hand through the hole in the door and i don't mean the window!

Anyway this year i thought i might hunt down one of Rusty's old brothers for his birthday as a project to nurse back to health and this got me thinking what did alfa make in the 80's. i fancied a classic alfa for some time but the 60's and 70's coupes are way out of my range so i ended up looking at the Alfretta the saloon model not the GTV coup.

in recent years classic cars have really grown on me particularly old Alfas found a couple of nice looking projects on ebay maybe if i have some spare cash ill pick one up and i can role to some classic car shows with my Dad.

any ideas on the nicest affordable classic Alfa? let me know you thoughts anyone got anything to say about Alfrettas? the shape has strangely grown on me!

Alfetta or Alfa 75 are available at low cost. I have a feeling the 75 will be more highly valued in years to come and they are a great drive / trackday car.

Have you seen the Alfa 90 for sale on pistonheads? Very 80's and quirky and in very good condition, think I'd prefer that to a 75 or Alfetta plus you have that great V6

Hey people check out that 90 on pistonheads looks tidy but i think i like a Alfetta more reminds me of the 60's and 70's coupe shapes only its a saloon. love the flat nose with the chrome alfa grill. as for the 75 can't say i've ever been a fan of the shape

The Alfetta saloon is a nice shape and they are a good drive, as well as being practical. I think that your biggest obstacle will be trying to track one down in any condition. There must only be a handful left on the road these days. I also liked the Giulietta of the 80s. My friend's mother had one and I remember sitting on the back seat, which was quite high up, marvelling at the interesting speedo and rev counter ( they moved in opposite arcs, in a "clap hands" movement ). It is effectively the same car as the Alfetta saloon, just a different body shape.

the good thing about the 75 is that the bodes are galvanized, which means there are many more about, which is maybe why their prices have not shot up, still too many survivors. They are new enough to get fuel injection, but are not weighed down by airbags, side impact bars, electric seats etc etc

Take a look at a white 75, still looks quite modern to my eyes, and that mish-mash of angles and straight lines is so wrong it most definitely right

well i've defiantly see a load more 75's around than any other older model and yes lighter for the lack of extra safety stuff! but this is Alfa we are taking about all about style looks and the modern look of the 75 and the 90 sort of defies the point of it being a classic! i like the rounder bodies of the 60's and 70's or the squarer early 80's saloons personally

I guess you've seen the older, better condition, one as well. I didn't point that out as you mentioned nursing back to health and it looks like it doesn't need any nursing. Too nice for me, I'd be afraid to drive it.
