Where are they now?

Having owned 5 cars since passing my test, I have spotted 2 of them since they were subsequently sold. Unfortunately I have never seen any of my previous Alfas and it got me thinking, "where are they now?".

My job involves a fair amount of driving and whenever I see another 147 or 159 on the road (in the relevant colours, of course) I always check the reg to see if it is my old car. Call me a sentimental old fool but I'd like to know if they are still on the go.

I know data protection is a big thing these days but I wondered if there an online database anywhere that would indicate if a car is still on the road and if so, in which area it is currently registered. Obviously if plates have been changed then you'd have little chance but I'd be interested to know.

Any ideas?

Yes, you can look on the DVLA website and see if any vehicle has been taxed or not by entering it's reg number. It's a limited amount of info but it's something.

My old GTV became unlicensed in October 2010
I suspect that means it's dead. My old Golf Gti, which I scrapped (and got confirmation of scrapping from DVLA), is also listed as "unlicensed" as of the year I scrapped it.

Well at least the GTV had 3 years of life after I sold it. Dead at 11 years old. Most likely beyond economic repair.

Hmmm.

It would appear my old 147 is no longer. The 159 remains however.

Looks like my old 147GTA is dead, genuinly unhappy :-( biy my last Fiat Coupe LE is still live and kicking ...happy again :-) ....but no news of my last Spider .....doh :-(

you can also check the motor insurers database to see if it's insured. not taxed or insured suggests the car's either gone to the big scrapyard in the sky or has been bought by complete scrotes

my old 156 never appeared anywhere after i traded it in. mango's shifted it off to a 2nd hand car garage in cheshire, but after that it's never been taxed or insured. it needed a cambelt service and new injectors but apart from that was only on an 05-plate and in very good nick, with 80k on the clock. i reckon it's fallen into the wrong hands
