Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came home last night to watch the footie, what a result...England winning, the roonster, what genius...and then the girlfriend looks out of the window and sees this...

No note or nothing, parked the car on a respectable road with plenty of room, tucked my wing-mirror in as always yet someone still managed to ruin a wicked day...now im faced with being stung 300 for the excess and lossing 2 years no-claims...im skint after just moving house...would love to catch the person who did it, mangel them...please send money to the Dogbreath restoration project lol...

Thankfully she still drives well but ive got to sort it out or rust will creep in.

Gonna get a quote before i send it to the garage

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly, report it to the Police, it's a hit and run.

Then as McGuinn says take a wander round the neighbours cars to see if you can find a damaged car.

Also have a word with the neighbours they may have heard something.

One good thing about car repairs here is that you CAN NOT get your car repaired without a police report.

Any garage caught repairing a car without a police report are in for very large fines - of course illegal repairs go on but it keeps the worst of it at bay.

Bloody selfish not to have at least left a note.......and expensive for you

Oh bugger, that looks very likely to be cost effective write off material. Sorry. They probably only felt a little bump in their 4x4 when it happened.

BASKETS!

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At a rough layman's glance I can't see your repair being less than 1k, more closer to 1.5K, which is your car's value.

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shame, just joined the www.alfa145.com forum, Nobby on that sight reckons it costs 81 for the rear quarter and even quoted the part number...guess there is alot of work needed...would like to spend a saturday slapping a primer panel on and leaving it till i can afford a full car respray. Rust may now be a problem.

Anyone have any experience of this...

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rear-quarter panel is the one panel that you MUST NOT damage. It is hard to repair it without dismantling the car - it attaches to the sill, rear panel and the roof. All that trim inside has to come out and all those panels have to be touched with new paint at the end.

The panel at 84 is the least of your worries. I'd guess 600 upwards for that ding... but get a quote.

The insurance company would probably not repair the car if the damage creeps towards 4 figures... they worry that on dismantling other damage may become apparent, so they usually give themselves a margin of 67% of the value before writing it off.

If they write it off you'll lose your bonus, excess and the remainder of your policy (you may just have renewed?) so think twice about using the insurance for this.

That just made me say "woooo" outloud...ok, i did a freeze-frame there...this little dink is gonna ruin me...shame cause the car drives like a peach...how do the guys in the know feel about a bodgy of some description to keep the rust away, polyfila etc (ill look like a nova driver)...saddens me but the need for a car out-weighs my need for a pretty car...

Rendundant for 8 months and just getting back on my feet...such is life...

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok firstv dont event tell your insurer, as most will penalise you next year for even being ';involved' in an accident, even if you were not in the car at the time

Second never go to a main dealer for pricing a repair thats not on insuarnce ~(and especially not Desira (fecking bar stewards -another story!)).

go to a specialist body shop, that if required can provide recommendations/show the workmanship, tell them its not insurance and you want a good repair but at lowest price, and get a few quotes.

On insurance they would replace the panel, but otherwise may be able to do some panel beating and filling/welding, and if they are good you will never be able to tell.

Try Grove coachworks, marshfield service stn, sewardstone road chingford E4 7rf(not far from m25 junc 26) - they were the body shop for glyn hopkins AR in buckhurst hill, so are well used to dealing with alfas

Hold the rear end slide....don't run wide!

Re: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers everyone for their help, last night i went to the house outside the smack and she didnt hear or see anything. Havent gone to the old bill, dont see them being able to do anything.

Did cycle around looking for the car that did it, couldnt find one, starting to thing it was something big like a small truck...who knows, a small truck might not have even noticed doint that.

Cut up my credit cards (evil things, do the same if you can!) so im doing a damage limitation excercise now, gonna paint it all so it dont rust and then when i have a few scheckles get it done privately.

Spoke to direct line, they have cancelled my claim as such with no effect to my no claims etc. I also asked about getting my car down-graded to 3rd party Fire und Theft, no point pay extra and then getting **** all back from my insurer if a big smash happened.

Phoned around and managed to knock my insurance (29year old, 4 years NCB, 146 ti in herts) to 39 a month down from 63!...Herts insurance seem quite good and deal with mods too
