Help 159 or GT????

My other half is hopefully trading in her car for an alfa soon, the question is to get a 159 or a GT??? im leaning towards the 159 but is the GT cheaper to run??? looking at the 1.9 JTD models 06 onwards

Re: 159 or GT????

Think they are both the same in running costs aren't they? From what I've heard anyway.

Looks wise I'd go with the GT every time, but if you do need more space and carry alot of passengers (3+) then get the 159.

If however, most of the time it's just yourself and the missus, then I say go with the GT.

Re: 159 or GT????

Both cars drive really well but differently. I tested both before I got my 159 and you know what I opted for. I have thought about changing to a GT cloverleaf for economy (the 2.4 is not cheap to run) but I don't think I could go back to the old style interior or build quality.

The GT's also seem to be dropping in value quite sharply now. The 159 may be a better bet from a depreciation point of view.

Have you tried PCH on a new one? May be some good deals keep in mind that the Spider LE was not much over 300 pcm.

Re: 159 or GT????

I have just got rid of my GT V6 and have to say that the 159SW is a real step up in quality terms. Its feels much more solid and well built.

That said, whilst the 159 SW is stunning to look at the GT pips it on the looks front, in my opinion.

Much prefer the interior of the 159 though!

This is probably not much help

P.S. my wife says she prefers the GT interior

Unless it's a 3.2 GT, go for the 159. Much better comfort & quality - more modern but slightly leff "fun" as a result

Hey Squadie that's fighting talk ! The 3.2 sounds better but that's all - it's heavy and fights for grip. The diesel is a better drive.

The V6 is a lovely engine and quite beautiful- its one of my all time favourites - but Alfa managed to mess it up in the GT.

I have petrol running through my veins but all current Alfas are best served with the 1.9jtd.... so long as you can put up with an engine that sounds like a bus.

Re: 159 or GT????

Definitely 159. The GT looks dated now, particularly from the front with the really dated lights. Interior of GT not much good either, cheap looking plastics that scratch easily. 159 better car from every respect, and you can seat two comfortably in the rear - can't do that in the GT (poor headroom for one).

I wouldnt buy a new GT but the 3.2 is such a laugh and I find it very comfortable.

Dont agree with the poster who said the GT had a cheap interior. Mine has lasted much better than the Audi I had previously. I havn't scratched any of mine. Ok there's not much room in the back but I dont need it and that's not what you buy the GT for anyway. Great sound too as previously mentioned.

I've only driven a 1.9 diesel 159 and I wasn't impressed to be honest.

Re: 159 or GT????

If you're comparing the 1.9 JTD versions of both cars, the GT will feel/be a lot quicker, the 159 is a very heavy car.

When compared to a GT or 156. It's actually comparable to the opposition (OK, just a tad heavier)

Re: 159 or GT????

Have to agree with VO2MAX, I have just come out of a GT Blackline 1.9JTD and gone into a 159 with the same engine.

MPG for the GT ave 42, MPG for the 159 is at 37

Both great cars, its a choice of either Coupe Chic or Saloon Style?

Re: 159 or GT????

Have to say GT JTD. I moved from the GT to a 2.2 Brera and have to admit I was initially disappointed. Brera was nowhere near so entertaining to drive and contrary to what others say, the build quality of the Brera was if anything worse although this could be because this was one of the first in the country (May '06). I think quality has improved since then and most of the niggles in the Brera were sorted. However, I have recently had a Spider LE and have to say thus far am not over impressed from a quality aspect. I still find myself hankering after the GT again, it's a great all round package, looks to die for (still), performance, enjoyable and entertaining handling, economy and price. It has to be one of the best value packages around. As for the interior, you can comfortably seat four or five people, front seats are in my view some of the best around and it is still a nice environment to be in. If the choice was between Brera and GT I would find it difficult and could well go back to the GT. As your choice is between GT and 159 - no hesitation GT every time, you will find the 159 a pleasant, capable, good looking car but no where near as much fun or as cheap to run. GT for me!!
