I believe I'm a considerate person - the fact I did not want to let him in was down to the fact that he did not indicate and despite me being just a 5 feet from the car in front (No gap) he just decided to push me off the road.
The issue with the zipper effect is that you will always get people doing what the guy did to me and that will result in road rage incidents.
I sit in ques going into bristol some days and people have the zipper effect and it works well until the traffic merging decide that they can create two rows of traffic trying to join the main carriageway and guess what nothing moves.

Re: Road Rage
Whatever happend to just brake testing and bringing the tail gating **** to a stop - getting out of your car, running round to the other drivers car kicking the door as he tries to get out of it, so it smashes into him - or if he stays put - use a small sharp centre punch (which you should all have for safety reasons) smashing his window - throw a few punches in the feckers face and calmly walk back to your car and drive off

Re: Road Rage
i have to admit that i have a problem these last few months with road rage its very bad with my chosen profession of hgv driver.
i find myself sat in my cab shouting at the person in front and sitting on their ar5e which usually intimidates them then they slow down even more and i stonk past. i no its not big or clever!
my dad is the same he drives on the continent with a wagon and drag left hooker. he was in a layby and somebody followed him in and smashed his door in with a hammer for no reason. he opened the door and smashed him in the face with it and drove away. the bloke followed him trying to ram into the side so my old man put him in the crash barrier!!
fair play

Re: Road Rage
My other favourite.....
2 lane dual carriageway approaching a roundabout that has single lane exits. At rush hour everyone is queuing up to go straight over which is the main drag and is slow moving traffic on the roundabout and exit.
95% of people sit in a queue on the inside lane of the 2 lane approach so as to leave the right hand lane open for those who want to turn right at the roundabout where it is traffic free.
Every other car that goes down the outside lane in fact DOESN'T turn right at the roundabout - but stops on the roundabout with their indicator on trying to get into the single lane exit that everyone else is queuing for on the roundabout approach.
Result - Blocked roundabout for everyone else and even longer queues on the approach.
Winkers. Why is it ok for them not to queue when everyone else clearly is? It's not easing traffic flow to use both lanes - it's blocking traffic flow.

Thinks more or less what I was complaining about - people being totally inconsiderate and believing that their journey is so much more important than everyone else

Re: Road Rage
A favorite trick I have seen where a dual carriageway meets a roundabout with single lane exits is when everyone queues up in the left lane to take the first exit, go down the outside lane, go right around the roundabout until you get back to the first exit, then go off. The best bit, is that you also have right of way so the people queuing now have to let you off the roundabout.

Re: Road Rage
I over took a guy once, he booted it back past me and stopped, got out of his car and produced a lump hammer from his back seat. At which point I put it in reverse and we played cat and mouse for a while, blipping the reverse whenever he got close. Scary but funny.

Have to admit I do this ... but ... generally the left lane is going straight on AND left, if the vast majority of people are turning left what is the harm in going down the outside and then going straight across?
I don't think that we can put a blanket moral judgment, every roundaout is unique as are the driving conditions and the weight of traffic ...
... one thing I think we can say is that everyone should give way to Alfa drivers (maybe if you're driving a non-alfa on that day you could get some sort of sticker to indicate that you are an alfa owner)

A roundabout in York is like that, so much so that the council change it so the left lane is for left, the right lane for straight on and right.
What I would like to see on roundabouts where the majority of people go straight over (2nd exit), is the left lane for straight across, and the right lane for right, and also for left. I do this on a few roundabouts, I'm not pushing in front of anyone, the reason there is a queue to go straight across is because there is no room for cars going straight across to leave the roundabout, as that whole section of the ring road is backed up. Sitting in the left lane to go left with all the other cars, 95% of which intend to go straight across, serves no purpose and benefits no-one. Infact it extends the queue so far back the people that want to go right do not have a second lane to overtake those wanting to go straight on. Sometimes it would make sense for everyone to think a little and think what would be beneficial for themselves and everyone else, and put aside the rules when road conditions are not normal (ie, nose-to-nose traffic in rush hour). But as of yet we have no way of changing which lane is for which exit at different times of the day.

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Give way to the traffic on the right and you won't go far wrong. Unless you're abroad...
