Which Pirellis for my 156 Sportwagon?

Hi chaps,

I initially posted this question in the technical section but had a poor response so thought i'd try here.

When I bought the car new it came with Pirellis, they then discontinued the type fitted so I went onto a budget tyre but the Federals are quite noisy and so i'd quite like to return to Pirellis but there are so many different versions.

My current tyres are 215/45/17 and I mainly do motorway driving........any suggestions for the best type of Pirelli please?

Personly I'd forget the brand and concentrate on what you want from your tyres. I want performance so generally go for Eagle F1's, what are your priorities?
The one set of Pirelli's I've had - P6000's I think, were over priced and lacking grip.

I had Pirelli P Zero Nero on my 156 in the same size. They were good and sticky but I scrubbed the front ones off in 12,000 miles.

I replaced them with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx mainly because they were £15 cheaper per tyre.

I had Sport Maxx on my previous 156 and I expect them to wear at about the same rate.

Personally I swear by P zero Nero's but they don't have a long life, mind you with the grip they have it's hardly surprising.

I'd say go for Kuhmo Ecsta KU31. I've had them on my JTD and V6 and couldn't fault them at all. Grippier than the Dunlop SP Sport 3000s I've had, and far better in the wet than the hopeless Pirelli P6000s.

I thought you had P Zero Rosso on the GTA.

I have never been a fan of Pirelli's. But I could understand someone buying them for their Alfa as they are italian.

How about Marangoni's?

Not a fan of the P Zero Nero's on my 159 I know the tyres are big (235/40/19) but drove GTLeigh's Brera yesterday and the steering feel on Potenza's was miles better. Much more direct & feelsome

Trouble is, only Pirelli & Conti's seem to do the XL tyre for the Ti

Er yeah, but isn't that more likely to be due to the Brera itself rather than the tyres?

???

Brera has the same steering as my 159 it just sits higher on smaller wheels so really not sure what your point is CF
