GTV Vrs M3
Hi Ya,
played golf last night with a mate yest that owns an 03 BMW M3 and we had a bit of a race on the way home (think i went over the limit) ;o)... to his and my surprise on a straight road there was nothing in it... bottled out when i got to the corners tho... not bad for an 8 year old...

Hey now... you're forgetting the extra driveline losses and weight of RWD. I'm sure that can account for the 100+hp power deficit of the Alfa!
Jim, tell your mate he's busted, you know he only has a debadged 325i with an M-sport package.. Explain that the automatic should have given it away before but you didn't realise real M3s don't have those.
After this you should have solved the problem Bigfoot pointed out above.

I can tell you that he must have a problem if he was absolutely flooring it.
That car is a good second and a half quicker than you to 60. And 338 bhp not to be messed with!
Is your car tweaked?

Re: GTV Vrs M3
sorry, but I find this hard to believe, and just because he has raced most of his life doesn't mean he knows how to drive.
What is the power of a GTV and does anyone know the weight of one?
Was your mates M3 a manual or and SMG, if it was an SMG what setting was the gearbox on, and if the m3 was cold (which i assume it was after a round of golf) the ECU wont let it past 4.5k until it gets to a certain temp, and then only in 500k incs. until it is fully warm.
I don't want to rain on your parade at all, it's just if you are not armed with all the facts then you could end up feeling a little silly if you say it to someone who really knows what they are talking about, and it's things like this that start all the pub talk off.

Re: GTV Vrs M3
Sorry Jim, what I said probably sounded quite attacking, and it wasn't meant as such, there is just a lot of dis-information in this world, so I was just after more facts.
Thanks
Rich

Re: GTV Vrs M3
Who cares if the GTV isn't as fast as a M3, it looks a hell of a lot better, and on todays roads can you use all of an M3's performance? Nope, not very often if you value your licence.
But you can use the GTV's looks all of the time.

Re: GTV Vrs M3
Eldest son has a GTV ,the M3 I have is because of him not being able to afford it so I ended up with it , he is always just popping out in it for a spin , as it is a lot faster in the real world driving than the GTV.
If your freind has a SMG II then they are quicker than the manuals !His is either knackered or he cant drive ...at all.
As for driveline loss of RWD I guess it would be = the front wheel scrabble that I experience in my sons GTV ??
Can you use all the GTV's power if you value your licence....nope .in fact can you use the wife's Stilo redlining in each gear ....Nope .............
Last point I agree with
