Cars/Driving: The new smoking?

It's lean and mean, but is it green? EU plans clampdown on car ads | Environment | The Guardian

Could be.

I'd like to go all Victor Meldrew and screech " I don't believe it ! "

Sadly though I can believe it.

Dammit G, as soon as I saw the thread title I was poised to link to that sniffpetrol article. It's one of their best in terms of making a point.
Also, Alain Turdisquirts could be their very best spokesperson name ever.

Another good reason for the UK to ditch the EU. Who do they think they are?

I love this part:
The exact wording of the new warnings is as yet unclear but, in line with the EU’s stance on not allowing anyone to enjoy themselves, proposals are said to include ‘Danger: This car may allow you to get to places you want to go’, ‘Attention: This vehicle may accidentally cause you to have some fun’ and ‘Warning: This car may prevent you from having to trudge around in the rain trying to find a bus stop that isn’t full of used heroin’.

Re: Cars/Driving: The new smoking?

Wouldn't bother me if Driving did become the new Smoking.

I hate it when I go for a quiet drink and the pub is full of people in their cars polluting my air.

I say - make 'em go outside. They'll soon stop whining and get used to it.

I don't think it is all the EU's fault. We live in a nanny state that is in love with rules, regulations and complicating everything.

They'd better find a cave in Afghanistan to hide in quick-time, before the Gestapo come knocking and extradite them to America

Re: Cars/Driving: The new smoking?

Only really nice expensive cars should be allowed on the roads. Those that can't afford them should be forced to contibute what they would have spent on cars towards a really good public transport system, run by the people that have to use it. Then the roads would have far less traffic and everone would be happy.
